sj10689, pitching wins games, huh??  That's exactly Philadelphia won the N.L. East last year, and exactly why the Yankees win a lot of games every year - they have great pitching.  The Cubs, in my opinion, maximized their potential by winning 85 games last year because their rotation stayed completely healthy the entire year.  The only injuries they had to deal with were Soriano for a month and A. Ramirez for another - and their offense went into the tank while those two were out.  They didn't get any better from this year to last - Soto=Barrett, J. Jones=Fukudome, and they're once again depending on Kerry Wood who's already shown injury concerns this spring.  I honestly believe they need more offense or they are going to have trouble winning games in this division.  You can have all pitching you want, but the Reds, Brewers, and Astros all can really hit - and the Cardinals are still dangerous with Pujols, Duncan, and Glaus.  I understand every major media outlet is predicting the Cubs, but last year I don't remember anyone saying the Rockies would represent the N.L. in the World Series.

Response to kolodziej_s: I understand your post, but the one thing you must consider in my post is that I never said that pitching was the ONLY thing that wins games. Hitting, of course, wins games too (consider the walk-off homers), but if a team doesn't have adequate pitching, it won't survive the rigors of a full season. The Arizona Diamondbacks won the NL West last in batting average in the majors (.254). Nobody has ever won a playoff spot finishing last in ERA (at least in the modern era, 1962-present).
