Crean jumps from the in state rival to an in conference foe.  I know that Crean and Ryan had plenty of battles for recruits in WI, does this give Bo a bit of an advantage with the home state kids or will Crean keep plundering Milwaukee and luring them to IU now?  Any thoughts anyone?

Good question. I have no idea, but there's no real reason to think that Bo won't be able to get decent recruits. I mean, he's built consecutive 30-win teams, so I'm not going to complain.

Seriously though - Milwaukee has some good players, and if anyone knows about them, it's Crean. We'll have a battle on our hands.

Indiana is going to suck next year. Aren't they losing like 4/5 of their starters? Wow.

I think this could give us a leg up in teh Jamil Wilson battle, assuming we are still right in the mix of that.

It affects the Badgers, but it doesn't.  I believe Tom Crean's focus will be keeping recruits from Indiana in the state.  There is a plethora of top recruits from the state of Indiana and I think Crean will try to get them to come to IU to play.  However, I think a large portion of his success in the first couple years, hinges upon what other penalties the NCAA imposes on IU.  That is not to say that Crean doesn't continue to try to recruit Milwaukee and Chicago because I think he will.  In fact, he may have more success with the prestige of the program pitch he can give.  But Bo will continue to go after guys that fit his system.  Now when it comes to Jamil Wilson, it will be interesting to see who Marquette hires.  I think that the hire Marquette makes affects the Badgers ability to recruit more than Crean's leaving does.  It will also be interesting to see if Jamil Wilson shows any interest in IU now that Crean coaches there, or if it's still a race between Marquette and UW.

The run for Jamil, IMO, got a bit easier after IU took Crean. As stated above, Crean will focus on keeping Indiana talent, and I don't think anyone but an high school Indiana baller really wants to step into a Indiana program that may yet have more sanctions. Why step into that fire unless you've been an IU fan your whole life?

I don't think think the Marquette hire matters much unless they truly get an elite coach, which I don't think they will. Players may have wanted to play for Crean because it was fast-paced and guard oriented, but now that style for Marquette is a big question mark. If I am being recruited, I would go with the sure thing in Bo Ryan and the Badgers. You KNOW what you're stepping into as a player.

From the rumors it seems like Jamil is a sure lock for Wisconsin, but it almost seems merely rumors. But then again, rumors have to start from somewhere. I actually worry a bit more about a defection to michigan state, only because they went as far in the NCAA tourney as the Badgers. It would have been nice to see them drop out a round or two earlier for our recruiting sake (I wanted to root for Big Ten...but then again not for MSU).

Overall, I think Crean in Indiana didn't hurt us, and may have given us a bit more of an edge. Depending on the Marquette hire, Bo may be able to secure ALL wisconsin recruites even easier now, since he's now the most seasoned Div-I wisconsin coach.

GO BADGERS!!!

P.S. Is it almost football season yet?

I don't think the Crean hiring will negatively affect the Badgers.

I think if you look at it from the Local area recruiting it gives the Badgers and edge for right now just because they have an established coach and program. I also believe that Tom crean will be able to pull some of them same recruits to Indiana to play on a larger stage. One advantage Crean has is that there is 0 returning starters at Indiana so there is plenty of playing time to be had. Either way this rivalry between Indiana and Wisconsin could get pretty heated over the next couple of years.

It definitely affects us.  Guys are going to have to start making commitments soon, and it'll be hard to commit to Marquette when they don't currently have a coach.  I agree it depends who they hire, and WHEN they hire him.  Besides, just the fact that Crean will be coaching in the Big Ten........he's a good coach!
