Ok just wondering aren't these "weekly" power rankings supposed to be rankings based on how good the team has done so far in the season? If thats the case how the heck are the Orioles, standing with the best record in the MLB at 6-1, ranked 21st, when the Detroit Tigers who are 0-6 are ranked 18th?

Not that I'm truly biased or anything, but I have to agree. Granted the O's are rebuilding, and they shouldnt be doing as well as they are, but lets give credit where credit is due. They're games have been fun to watch and I havent even seen highlights on some Sports shows yet. For my money right now, The O's are the best team, who wants to face a streaking young and hungry team?
O's, Stroh's, Boh's and Ho's hon

i agree. i mean, i dont think the Orioles should be ranked #1, but they should at least be top 10 for now. the power rankings are about how good a team is currently doing + how the season on a whole has been for them. mack cant justify their position in the rankings by saying that the winning wont last, because it hasnt happened yet. cross that bridge when you get to it. he probably will be justified later in the season, but its not later.
im not going to complain much, for now im more interested in the games rather than 'expert' opinions.

It's probably better that the "experts" don't go for the Orioles. Not many of them really know what they are talking about. I am convinced that the sportscasters don't really pay attention to anything outside of the Northeast.

I guess the 0.80 ERA out of the bullpen, timely hitting, good defense and fundamental baseball is part of Mack's "smoke and mirrors". The starters high ERA is based off DC's first bad game and Loewen getting knocked around in a short outing (both games that the team still won). The last 3 games, the starters ERA is 2.70 and if you go back the last 5 games (one trip through the starting rotation), the starter's ERA is 3.56. I know the O's are going to have a tough year competing, but I refuse to believe they will finish last in the AL East.

i think that is bogus!!!!....in every sport they say...."good teams need to beat the teams they should beat and pull off some upsets in order to be a great/contending team" right?
now im not saying the O's are a contender...not yet atleast.....but the teams they have played they hsould have beat or been upsets....Rays we should have beat, they improved alot from last year and im pretty sure we were underdogs in that series and we split it 1-1....then the M's who also imprved from last yeear and we were probabaly underdogs, and swept them 4-0. now i think any team that sweeps another team 4-0 is doing something right...its not like the O's are getting lucky...
they are winning by the long ball and winning playing small ball...just like when we won in the 9th down by 2....this young team has heart and isnt going to let anyone walk over them..also all the Bullpen pitching you guys talking about kept us in the games we were losing at one point or kept us in the lead....
i hope the team sees these rankings and it gets them boosted up for when we play the Wsox and the yanks starting the 17th...yea its a week away but if they keep up what they are doing they will impress alot of ppl...
including me lol

I don't know why I read this crap every week...6 game winning streak and your team is 21st. Yes, it's ridiculous. I just try not to get angry about it. BOS just dropped 3 to the Blue Jays after that grueling trip to Japan but they get ranked behind Milwaukee?????

I don't think I disagree with ya'll in this arguement however, I am not ready to say the O's are a top ten team in baseball the second week of the season. I think they could move to mid teens but I do think they have to sustain the winning ways for more than 1 week before I crown them the best team in baseball. If they keep winning this week then they move up more next week. It is like a top 25 poll in any NCAA sport just because you beat the #1 team doesn't mean your going to be the #1 team in the next poll you might have to win some more games first to prove you belong there.

Why even come out with weekly power rankings when the rankings have nothing to do with what the team is doing right now? I find this so called expert to not know anything about baseball. I mean really. The Orioles are the hottest team in baseball right now winning six in a row including a blow out of the Rangers today and we get placed behind the Tigers? Let me ask you this, so called "expert". If the Tigers can drop so far from losing games, why can't the opposite happen? Why can the orioles go up more spaces for winning all their games. This guy is dumb. I'm gonna stop looking at the "power rankings" from now on and just watch some good baseball.
