Let's see what we have hear ladies and gentleheels.  We are waiting for some serious news to come out of Chapel Hill, NC. Will Hansbrough go or stay? Will Lawson be a lottery pick, or will Wayne stay. All these and more will determine whether we will take Detroit in '09.  We have another Tyler coming next year in Tyler Zeller. He's a 7 footer who can run the floor but just needs to bulk up, and you know he will once he gets a taste of some down home Carolina cookin.  Ed Davis should be a beast inside to help the Tylers and Deon. Larry Drew could be a great backup or the starting PG.  We have a lot to think about over the next few days.  I think that we need Hansbrough to come back more than anyone.  Ty Lawson was great but he does get hurt a lot and I think that will be his determining factor for going to the NBA just like sean May. So sit back and relax because the Heels are coming back.

What would happen if nobody but Quentin Thomas left?  Would we have enough scholarships for all of our in-coming freshman?  Considering how Wayne Ellington's sounded last off-season, when he said Wayne was going to play one more year...I would have to assume that he's going to declare.  However, I believe that another season would do him some good.  You never know though, he may get drafted for potential.  I think that the desire to win a championship will bring Tyler Hansbrough back for his senior season.  If he does decide to come back, he will smash most of Carolina's records.  A lot of ACC records, as well.

CarolnaFaith- We have enough scholarships. You cant give out scholarships if you dont have any. If everybody stays we will be crazy good next year. We might not lose a game. We were the best team this year we just messes up in the Kansas game. We had a really bad shooting night. Congrats to Kansas they did a great job. I just think we are better. It was one of those nights.  Cant wait for next year.

Nice comments everyone. I honestly feel that Hansbrough will be back as he has unfinished business at UNC in winning a championship. I also feel that the NBA is no big deal to him at this point as he still needs to work on some things as he has the last three years (needs to refine that mid-range jumper and learn when and how to pass out of the double/triple teams). He is the key for UNC right now. Hansbrough also looked really uninterested in all the awards he received as that is not what he is about.

Ellington would be a fool to leave right now as the draft is really strong this year while next year's crop is not as strong. Same goes for Lawson. Neither are NBA ready and Lawson will find out as Felton has that there are some really quick and fast players in the NBA that will neutralize him. I have read that Ellington is projected as a low second round pick if he gets picked at all and after Lawson's injury and crappy game against Kansas he is projected as low first round to high second round pick which if he gets the low first round selection means he will go to a good/very good team where he can develop. Even if either or both leave, Frasor is coming back and Drew is also very fast/quick just needs experience. Also, I can see Green moving into the starting shooting guard spot if Ellington leaves and Graves moving into Green's spot off the bench. Green can also play a little point guard if necessary.

If all of the players come back, then they have the makings for a National Championship. Also, that would afford the incoming freshmen to see how UNC basketball is played and be mentored by the seniors. Either way, UNC looks to be pretty strong and even stronger in 2009 with that group of recruits coming.

Finally, I made some comments in a thread made by a Kansas fan who said that Roy was classy that were not directed at posters like the three of you. I know that you are UNC faithful and have been since the time we all came on the message boards around the same time. My comments were directed towards the badwagoners that have suddenly appeared the last couple of months that were bad mouthing Roy. If you felt my comments were directed towards you, I apologize as that was not my intent. You three guys and UNCle, TOM, krazyballa, easy180, tarheel810, HeelFan4Ever, dookisevil (and others), etc are class acts and I am proud to associate with you. 2008-09 looks to be another good year no matter what. GO HEELS!!!!!

UNC can actually offer a scholarship to someone with the assumption that someone will leave early which is why I've been telling you that Ty Lawson is as good as gone.  Wes Miller was a walk on his first year at UNC and then received a scholarship for his junior year and then gave his scholarship back to UNC to use for one of the Sophomore class recruits, so if Roy knows someone is leaving early or transfering or is willing to give up their scholarship, then he could offer one to a recruit....

Anyway. Danny Green should start no matter who comes back.  Not at PG...he is definitely not a PG...he is a player and players make plays and he can play just about anywhere, exception being PG.

Next year we will again be a front runner for the title...

purguy12--

I really think Tyler could do it. Look at his competition this year: Beasley and Love. Beasley is gone. He'll be in the NBA. Love is more than likely going there too. Mayo is going. So all of the finalists except for him are not going to be in the NCAA next year. Unless there's some phenom coming in that I haven't heard of, it's going to be a no-contest. That, of course, given that he stays. But I think he will. He doesn't have that National Championship yet....

I believe that when Sean May left that he was thinking of how injury proned he was. He had bad knees and knew if he went to the pros that he would get paid.  I think the same for Lawson. He gets hurt a lot and if he is in college he is not getting paid.  The Tarheels will have a good PG in Frasor coming back next year. That might be what we need. We have to learn to slow the game down from time to time and play a different style. We also need to work on our defense, obviously and Bobby wa good at that.  Stepheson has been rumored to transfer and I see some rumors out there saying he's gone and staying so we will see.  I like Stepheson's intensity over Deon but Deon is a better offensive player.  coachpelia you are da man, so are the rest of the Heelnation posters in here.. Go Heels!

I'm new to this board but I've been a Heels fan all my life.  Just getting that out there so you don't think I'm just some poster.

If UNC doesn't make it back to the Final Four next year, I'll be shocked!  Tyler and Wayne are back(IMO), and although Lawson is one of the better PG's in the nation, Bobby Frasor is a better shooter.  Larry Drew Jr is a beast and he won the McDonalds 3-pt contest so he can shoot well also.  Marcus can help at point in a crunch.  So the hit would not be as severe if we lose Lawson.

Down low we would have Hansbrough,Thompson, Stepheson(I don't think his transferring), Davis, and Zeller.  With Ellington, Green, Ginyard, Graves on the wing, our inside/outside game will be second to none.  If Tyler gets better at passing out of the double team the shooters will get a lot of open looks.

NCAA competition is getting tougher every year with the NBA age rule.  But I believe if Lawson comes back, the Heels could possible go undefeated.  I know it's high hopes but definitely obtainable.
