There is no question that they are better with him the the lineup, but why rush him back just because he's been cleared to play? He clearly isn't playing the same way right now, and until he shows he trusts himself to be 100% Gil, he shouldn't be thrown back into the fire.
I agree that even at 70% teams pay close attention to him just because of what he is capable of, but they need only keep a close eye on him until he returns to form. Until which he should keep coming off the bench to build up to that return.
