I don't know. I like the Buffalo boy, of course. But I'm actually leaning toward Jonathan Toews as being the best rookie. I didn't get to see much Blackhawk hockey this year, so I base this only on a few clips and the fact that Patrick Kane's numbers dropped in the period in January when Toews was out of the lineup, showing how much of an impact he actually made in production for that lineup. As far as winning the Calder, I'm not sure how much missing 18 games would play into his chances of winning, but if you look at points per game he was pretty much in line with the other candidates (Kane with about 0.87 ppg and the other two with about 0.84). Backstrom is also very good, and all three had spectacular rookie seasons, but I'd put the two Hawks ahead of him because his numbers may be skewed a bit from playing on the same line as Ovie all season.
