If San Diego had no fired Marty Schottenhimer, they would have beaten the Patriots and possibly won the Super Bowl.
He was coach of the year in the 2004 season.
What do you think?

I think you're high! I think we beat you (Patriots) in 2006 without Marty. I think we lose to Tennessee and/or Indy in 2007 with Marty. The guy is a proven loser in the playoffs. I think we beat you in 2007 with a healthy LT/Gates/Rivers. Not Norv's fault... just a lucky break for you guys... again.

The Patriots beat the Chargers 2 times last year. It was because of poor coaching. The San Diego had a better offense, and defense, and they picked off Tom Brady one time. A good coach would have won that game. There is one of us who is high and it is clearly you. The San Diego Chargers should have won that game in 2006 and won the Super Bowl. It was a great coaching effort in 2006. The players choked a lot. I believe that it was a bad idea to fire Marty

A lot of us agreed with that at the beginning of the season. Norv did a good job in the end, he really did - so most nay sayers came over to his side.
As for what would Marty have done? Hard to say - different style of preparation. In 2006, the players blew the game against the Patriots. In 2007, all our biggest weapons were injuried, including Rivers who played through it all. If we had them, we would likely have converted 2 or 3 field goals into Touchdowns, if not all 4, and changed the outcome of the game. I don't believe coaching lost that in the slightest - on the biggest stage, the players ultimately made the difference. 3 hobbled pro-bowlers is not a good way to win.

Correction...The Pats beat two different Chargers teams last year. We all know the Chargers in week 2 were a far different team than in the AFC Championship game. Despite injuries to two players, that are the best at their positions in the NFL and a QB who couldnt pass a DUI field test with his two bad wheels, the coaching staff had them in position in the second half to head to the Super Bowl. The poor coaching (as you call it) had them marching up and down the field in the first half but couldnt punch it in the endzone.Without L.T. , who we all know has a nose for the endzone, and a healthy Gates who as well is a monster inside the redzone but far less effective with the injury gave them very limited options as the field became that much smaller inside the 20.....instead of prying in our coaching staff one should look at the Pats staff who were out coached in the AFC Championship game and the Super Bowl. Without the best RB in football ,an injured hurt Gates and Rivers

Correction...The Pats beat two completely different Chargers teams in 07. We all know the week 2 Chargers were a far different team than one in the AFC Championship game.Despite the fact the Chargers coaching staff were missing the best RB in football, having a hurt Gates(best TE in football), and having a starting QB who with his two bum knees couldnt have passed a DUI field test at the time, they had the Chargers marching up and down the field in the first half. Not having a healthy Gates and not having L.T. at all inside the redzone made the field which is already small enough inside the 20 just that much smaller. We all know how much LT has a nose for the endzone along with Gates being a complete monster in the redzone as well.I believe instead of looking how poorly the Chargers staff coached one must look at the Pats and notice how they were out coached in the AFC Championship game as well as the Super Bowl. There is no way without LT and a banged up Gates and Rivers that the Chargers should have ever been able to come in to Foxboro in late January and been able to hang with the Pats. Although I was dissapointed by the loss I was more encouraged with how the young Chargers showed some grit and determination and finally grew up. I cant wait to see what may come in the 08 season and further. The Chargers time is now!!! Good luck to you and your team. Hope to see you in late Jan where it could very well be 66 degrees and sunny this time.....

Thank You Bro ,you saved me a lot of typing . Everything you said is right on the money .With our guys healthy we could have beat anybody . We could have beat em with Norv or Marty . I liked Marty alot . He made the Chargers winners again . Norv walked into a pretty well set up venue. I had my doubts about him but the Chargers had a lot of luck last year that they didn't have before . The ball bounced OUR and Cromartie"s way alot . I am looking forward to this year . I wish we would have kept Lorenzo Neal . He got hurt but he is a proven All Pro that is not done yet . like a couple of other guys I know hmmmmmm Jr Seau # 55 and Rodney Harrison #37

patsdrule,
Rivers was sucking early in the year. He improved dramatically... because of coaching! Chargers picked Brady 3 TIMES in the AFCCG... good coaching! And everyone west of MA knows that with Tomlinson and Gates healthy... Chargers go to the Super Bowl and beat Sheli.
"Great coaching effort in 2006....?" Put down the crack pipe! LT had over 100 yards on your "old-man defense" by the half... and then had the ball taken out of his hands in the second half.... bad coaching!
Letting Tom Coughlin beat you... bad coaching! Maybe BB has lost his touch. Maybe you should replace him with Schotteheimer... I hear he's a good coach! LOL!

Bad coaching would of lost us the Indy game in the play-offs. Hurt players who are key in the red zone cost us the game in the AFC Championship. Whatever, its cool conversation, but sometimes, these questions like "Whos better, Rivers or Brees, and the whole Marty escapades" is kinda getting old.. But cool conversation though....

Bad coaching does not interfer with the fact that the Chargers always beat the Colts. The Colts had a bad defense and even backups can score a touchdown on their D- rated defense. Thanks for saying that this was a cool conversation.
