Why is everyone so down on our draft picks?
Why is everyone comparing what Allen can do to what Harvey can do? That is unfair.
Harvey just got drafted, and Allen has had some years to improve his game in the NFL, i wouldn't be busting balls until we see the Kids in action.
Like i say, it's not fair to the draft picks, they have to be given a chance to prove themselves.

Honestly. I think people are so upset because everyone on the Jags board was talking about not giving up a lot of picks for a proven player and then all of the sudden the Jags do just the oppisite and take a guy who is a subpar DE if anything. I hope Harvey does turn out to be a good DE. But man those draft picks could have went to Peppers or someone who can make an impact on the team right now. Hopefully Gregg can use Groves and Harvey to their advantage.
Harvey is big and slow and Groves is small and fast.

Harvey isn't subpar, he was atop alot of teams boards, Carolina would have gotten him most lickly, and it's who they wanted.
I don't care what his 40 time was, he had 20 something sacks in only 18 games, that says alot, especially in a tough SEC conference.
Harvey is an everydown DE, and Groves is a pass rush specialist, but will gain weight and be an every down De on the right side.
We have enough deep, this team is already too full of talent, so most of our draft pics wouldn't have made the team anyways.

I'm talking 'bout....i called it a long time ago, months before the draft. yah know the "G" stands for Gator baby and the JAG'S are sweet,i'm saying sweet on the GATOR'S just check the roster;three(3) on defense, soon to be four(4) and one(1) Freak'em Fred Taylor. the JAG'S had only one FLORIDA GATOR(CB/DEE WEBB) drafted, that was just disapointing.

Harvey, slow? No way, man! You need to re-watch the UF-OSU title game, and you'll see that Harvey is far from slow. Anyone that can do to a fast, mobile QB like Troy Smith, what Harvey did is definetely not slow. 40 times are overrated, because I seriously doubt Peyton is going to be 40 yards heind the line of scrimmage when he comes out in the shotgun. Derrick Harvey is explosive off the line. Even Vernon Gholston said that he learned alot of his pass rushing techniches from watching tape on Harvey.

In a lot of rankings, Harvey was the third rated DE in the draft. If you doubt his skills, please go back and look at Troy Smith's face in that championship game and then fast forward to see who was the defensive MVP of that game. And that was against an almost invincible team with one of the best o lines in the country.

Im just annoyed with the fact that people are saying the jags are stupid for picking a potential pro-bowler DE that will make around $30 million over an old, alcholic one that is one strike away from gone and will make $70 million. It just doesnt make sense. Atleast we arent arguing about whether or not to trade for Jason Taylor though. Look at this though, assuming everyone on defense comes back completely healthy.
RDE-Harvey/Hayward
DT-Big John
DT-Meir/Landri/McDaniel
LDE-Spicer/Groves
SLB-Daryl Smith
MLB-Mike Peterson
WLB-Ingram/Durant
RCB-Brian Williams
FS- Reggie Nelson
SS-Gerald Sensabaugh (when healthy has played very well)
LCB-Mathis
Nickle corner-Florence
If everything pans out, this defense might kill somebody. Its just nasty.

I am not a Allen fan but please stop throwing stones when you stay in a glass house. Maybe it was good that we didn't get Allen becuase of his problems. I am glad we didn't give anything up for Taylor because no one knows whay he's going to do after the 08 season.

Look Jagmania....Allen had ONE good year....and Peppers had a very bad year for the Panthers this past year....I would rather have two rookies with potential than two veterans that could be 1. a glug-glug-vroom-vroom session away from a year suspension, or 2. a one time great who may have only had a couple good years in him. either would have been a chance and most of those last round picks wouldn't have made the team anyhow (considering our depth)...remember that safety we drafted last year that didn't even make the final 53 or the practice squad? Taylor, Peppers, or Allen would have been chancey.....at least with these two....you could possibly get 2 speed defense end starters....for the same thing you would have given up for ONE Veteran....whose best days MAY be behind them.
