I know alot of Ram fans question this pick , but do not be mistaken. Avery will be a great player for the Rams. I've seen him play live about 6 times. He can run like you never saw someone run and he is as tough as nails. He can stretch any defense with the long ball, and he will catch balls over the middle and take the licks. Plus any time he catches the ball it's possible he could be celebrating in the endzone. You will be praising this pick sooner than you think.

wins, like I said in another post, I compare him to Kevin Curtis. The only question I had on the pick was, could we have gotten him in the later rounds?

My thoughts on why we took Avery over some of the maybe more polished receivers available are this...
The greatest show on turf took a serious hit when Az Hakim left... Hakim wasn't the best receiver in the league given his hands of stone but he was fast and teams had to play him honest... Afterall, he did catch like every 4th ball thrown to him and all were in the end zone...
That deep speed pulled those DBs deeper down field opening up the short to middle routes for Holt and Bruce, read: less double teams... We haven't had that kind of guy, even K. Curtis wasn't the replacement we needed...
Maybe Avery can be that guy for us, if so then its a good pick... We'll see...

i like this pick. everyone is comparing him to curtis and i thought we should have kept him. plus his speed is strait ridiculous so im content

I agree, I questioned him because I simply never heard of the guy. But doing some research, damn we took the fastest wideout. Can't complain with that.

sporting news has him ranked as #5 wr, i've read up on him and i like the pick, one thing for sure he wouldn't have been there in round 3 w/the run on Wr there was in the 2nd, and look at his speed and agility stats, he's super fast, and he has hands, everything else can be learned from our vets. which is mainly just route running.

I like the draft from the standpoint we took our top ranked defensive lineman and our top ranked WR.
If they don't pan out the Brass will have no excuses. Lets hope we can address O line in day 2 or free agency

After doing my homework on Mr. Avery I'm impressed with the pick. 4.22 in the forty with good hands and a good guy. I see him making a impact this year on special teams and hopefully by years end making some on the field as a WR.

This pick made me a little angry, but now I see where they were coming from. The man has pretty high character, and most importantly there isn't a major hole in his game that is not fixable.
Guys like Devin Thomas could be a one year wonder, and word is that he is not intellectually adept (to put it lightly) enough to learn fast or grasp a playbook. Malcolm Kelly has knee issues, and cried when he couldn't get his time. Also, Cinncinati could have used a big WR, but passed him up for Jerome Simpson, another WR who could have been found later. Andre Caldwell has similar elite speed, but has an injury history. Harry Douglas is small. Deshaun Jackson is very small, and not as fast in a strait line, I thought he could have been a little overrated.
Avery is very fast, occaisionally fluid in routes (or at least the ones he has ran), has a little return ability, and some after the catch moves. Also willing to go over the middle. Injury history is one sprained knee, in which he did not miss a play. His major issues are his blocking, ability to beat the press, a slight tendency to catch with his chest, and size to get the ball in traffic. Also, he not ran many NFL routes in Houston.
He is much stronger than he plays, so there is potential to have him become a decent blocker, and will help in him being able to get past the press. Honestly, tricks to fight off press and hand catching are very learnable, especially with Torry, Al Saunders(a former WR coach), and Henry Ellard teaching him. Has large hands (unlike Deshaun Jackson) to learn to catch well. I see no reason why he could run NFL, especially with great teaching. Anyway he will be used mainly to stretch the field.
Even if he doesn't learn to block, catch with his hands, or run great routes; he'll still be a Bernard Berrian, and that SOB got 7 mil a year.
