Ok - come on Prisco - give him a chance.

The Ravens have no where to go but up and Flacco is going to be good at the next level.

He has a good attitude and is a hard worker - he did excellent at his pro day and he didnt do too terribly bad at the combine.

I think this guy is going to bring alot to the table in Baltimore.

Here's the thing about that "not a competitor" criticism. Flacco wasn't scared of competition at all; he wasn't even given a chance to compete at Pitt. He was Walt Harris' recruit and Weinny benched him in favor of Palko, who was already the starter. When he came to Delaware, Flacco wasn't handed the job, he had to compete to be a starter with other QBs on the roster; no one going into KC Keeler's program at Delaware is handed a starting job, it's a level, equal field to earn playing time and prove your worth. Besides, what's better? Going I-AA and becoming an All-American, or playing just your senior year and having no shot at the NFL? Ryan and Brohm didn't attend the Senior Bowl -- but Flacco did. Flacco -- like other transfers -- went to someplace where he could play, and Pitt didn't even release him from his scholarship! Whether you agree with a player leaving or whether you liked him as a player or person, nothing can be more stupid and appaling than not releasing someone from a scholarship, especially after you didn't let him compete. Rather than asking "why was Flacco afraid of competition?", maybe critics should ask, "Is Weinny a poor evaluator of talent?"

Honestly, I think the "small-school, lower level of competition" talk is because there's few other things they can complain about Flacco: he's a solid student, no off-field issues, no character issues, rocket arm, led Delaware to a national championship, put up ridiculous numbers, was co-conference player of the year, was dead-on accurate, has better foot work than people think and is very coachable.

Look I am the first to admit I would love to be Joe Flacco. You just fell into a situation where this team is a decent quarterback away from the playoffs. My knock on the Ravens is how high they drafted him. The reason I say this is Flacco was in no way going to any team between 18 and 26. The Panthers and Bucs were the only people that could potentially have picked a quarterback and for what Carolina gave up to get to the Eagle's spot they would have had to pick a guy that will be a surefire starter for them which is what they got in Jeff Otah. The Ravens could have sat pat at the 26 spot picked Joe Flacco, and added two more players in the draft including one in the 3rd round that could have been a big contributor. They would have still gotten their guy and had two more draft picks. I admire their conviction to go and get the guy they want but at the same time you have to place a value on a guy. The value on Flacco could have been and probably should have been less than what it was. I also agree with Prisco on one point I think Chad Henne will be a better player in the long run than Flacco will be but Brohm will not unless he goes to another team eventually. The Packers just put them in the position the Chargers were in when Phillip Rivers was drafted. They have the incumbent starter in Drew Bress who is unproven for the most part but still the starter, and Rivers who was drafted to take his starting job well when the pressure was on Brees delivered making the decision even harder to let him go. The situation will be the same in Green Bay. Rodgers will perform well with the pressure from Brohm win the starting job and never look back. Brohm will most likely be traded unless Rodgers gets injured at all in the next couple of seasons. They need a veteran back up not Brian Brohm. He should have been a Chicago Bear in the second round not a Packer.
