Rams32k : "I can understand estimating one way or the other, but to say our draft was terrible, or a joke at this point is pretty bold. I'm not sure how things are going to turn out, but if our new players turn out I hope you fellas are ready to eat some words."

I didn't think it was a bad draft. In fact I thought it was a pretty good draft. However I did think that they squandered their positional advantage with that second pick. You have to admit that Donnie Avery was a pretty big reach.

You're talking about a different sort of evaluation. At the time of the draft every pick is a gamble. You're dealing with probabilities of future success of the prospect you're looking at coupled with the probability that he will be on the board at this or that point in the draft. If your future evaluation says that Jake Long is a bust for Miami for whatever reason it doesn't follow that Jack Long was a bad pick. It just means that the Dolphins lost on one of their short odds gambles.

I just think the odds that Donnie Avery would be available to St. Louis later on were a lot better than the odds of his future success vs. somebody like say, Quinton Groves. So I think it's a poor pick even if he turns out in the end to be a great player. If you want him so badly that you can't risk waiting then trade down and get more picks to compensate for what you're giving up by reaching.

@ jessumcanuck

I too wasn't really onboard with the D. Avery pick, but now I can't call it a reach knowing ten teams had him rated as the #1 WR...  That info coming later after the draft... And he wouldn't have been there in the 3rd round...

Was it a surprise, Yes (we needed a LB at that pick, but the last time we picked 33rd in the draft Isaac Bruce was the pick so maybe we got a new Ike, we'll see)...  But the guy may make us eat those words...  Who knows...

After a few dismal drafts by this team I myself am way good with this draft.... Solid players, with good character in the spots we needed to fill...  As I said, I'm way good with it...
