Augustin Going, Brown Signs

All-American point guard D. J. Augustin announced he is putting his name in
the NBA draft, and, while he did not immediately hire an agent, it looks like
he is giving up his final two years at Texas to try the pro ranks.
Meanwhile, head coach Rick Barnes has signed nationally ranked 6-2 combo
guard J'Covan Brown of Port Arthur Memorial.
Brown still has some academic hurdles to clear, but his chances of making it
are good.
With Augustin probably leaving, Barnes will have five of the  six top players
back from a team that went 31-7 and lost in the national regional finals to
Memphis State.
Shooting guard A. J. Abrams also is testing the pro draft, but I think he
will be back with the Longhorns next season.
The Longhorns were ranked No. 5 nationally in the post-season polls.
Backup guard J. D. Lewis was the only scholarship senior on the team, so
Barnes now has one scholarship available, in addition to the one Brown will take.
With one scholarship open, assuming Augustin stays in the draft pool, the
Longhorns are recruiting two out-of-state players and hope to sign one of them:
Devin Ebanks is an outstanding 6-8 forward from St. Thomas Moore of Oakdale,
Connecticut.
He is a top-15 national recruit who can play inside or outside. He also is an
outstanding ball handler with a good shooting eye.
He also is a likely NBA lottery pick after spending a year in college. He
visited Texas last weekend, and also is considering Memphis and Rutgers.
Wesley Witherspoon is a 6-8 forward from Berkmar HS in Lilburn, Georgia.
Witherspoon also is considering Memphis, Virginia, Florida and Colorado and
says he will announce his decision this week.
