I'm not quite sure if you've seen a Redskins' game over the past couple of years. Chris Cooley was the leading receiver for the 'Skins last year, Fred Davis played against the woeful Pac-10. It's far too early to throw Cooley off the team. Also, Zorn wants to add 2 TE options to the offense.

I agree, Chris Cooley is the heart of the offense whether it is Gibbs, Saunders, or Zorn. Davis just makes it a little harder for opponents to match up with Cooley. Redskins now have 8 legitimate skill position players in addition to the QBs, provided everyone stays healthy. Randel El and Moss are super quick and will have to be covered by CBs or else... When Thomas or Kelly is out there 3 CBs will have to be on the field or one of the three WRs on the field will shred the safety; When Davis is out there either the two safeties will have to each cover a tight end or Cooley or Davis should be taking apart a linebacker.
When 3 CBs are on the field things will be opened up for Portis or Betts in the run game and pass game. When the safeties have to play coverage on Cooley and Davis it should open things up in the run game or for deep passes to the running backs. When the safeties try to stuff the run, any of the three receivers has a good chance of beating the cornerbacks on mid-range to deep routes, and the tight ends can beat the linebackers for 30 yard grabs down the middle. If for some reason all of these matchup advantages are covered by great defense, Cambell can take 15 yard jogs out of bounds for defensively disheartening first downs.
The depth is nice, but Zorn is giddy because of matchup problems. Instead of double covering Moss and Cooley, defenses will have to be very careful about matchups and choose their poisons because they can't stop everyone or double cover anyone. Of course it is all just theory, dependent upon how well and how quickly the guys they just drafted can figure out how to use their undoubtable physical talents... But I don't think any of the receivers they drafted, or any of their current stars are free to be dealt or released in the next 2 or 3 years.

No excuses now, if Jason Campbell can't succeed in the next few seasons with these receivers, especially with Santana Moss in one on one coverage, he will never succeed. Can't wait for the season to get underway. Hail to the Redskins.

Go to You Tube and check out Cooley. Even as a Redskin fan, it really takes you by surprise to see just how dynamic he really is. I doubt he'll be "expendable". The Skins now have some serious depth @ TE (don't forget about Sellers and Yoder, either) and WR.

What you guys don't understand is that Chris Cooley is not a TE. He's an H-Back. Which is a little off the line of scrimmage and moves around a lot before the play, usually. It's not your conventional TE. So they are either going to make Cooley the H-back and Fred Davis the TE or the other way around. So they'll both see the field a lot, more than likely together. But I agree with whoever said that there's no more excuses for Jason Campbell not to suceed. He now has TOO many options. And not just the Recieving corps, the Redskins offense looks POTENT. With a good (and huge) O-line, Mike Sellers at FB, and the best young back in the game Clinton Portis (sorry AD).. they're run game was always good, they just needed a passing game to get 8men out the box. With Devin Thomas, Malcolm Kelly, Antwaan Randel El, Santana Moss, Fred Davis, and Chris Cooley there is no reason for Campbell not to suceed while Portis shreds up the league and the Redskins are in the top-5 offensively. They look like no.1 on paper.

Good point trano, but let's see what the new offense is like. Joe Gibbs was a proponent of a one back offense, with the fullback being replaced by an H-Back. His second go around he modified it some to get Sellers in there, but you are right Cooley wasn't quite a conventional tight end under Gibbs. Gibbs isn't there now, and I think Zorn wants a more West Coast style so we'll see if the H-Back stays, if Cooley becomes a typical TE, and how often they run a 2 TE set.
Rookie receivers rarely make a huge impact, so I think Jason Campbell might get a pass for this year, but he will have to get that offense humming soon.

New offense, new head coach, unproven rookie receivers and you think Cooley is expendable....ROTFL..Redskin fans, gotta love em.
Cooley is the only consistent player on that offense, Moss and Portis are hurt too much. Zorn is implementing a West Coast offense...do you have any idea how long it takes COMPETENT personnel to get up to speed on that?!
