The most telling and glaring stat for me was with the free throw shooting:
Hornets - .733 on 11-15 from the line
Spurs - .571 on 12-21 from the line
I'm sorry, but if you're the defending champion San Antonio Spurs and Gregg Popovich, that is simply unacceptable.
Nothing personal, but free throw shooting was and still is probably at the bottom of Popovich's list of concerns. Yeah, the Spurs only shot 57.1% from the line. Big deal! If they had shot 100% from the free throw line, THEN THEY STILL WOULD HAVE LOST BY 10!!!!! jefe101 thats real great of you to point out that glaring and important statistic; and its even better of you to show exactly why statistics dont mean a thing when its idiots who know nothing about basketball mindlessly regurgitating them. Hell, the Spurs made more free throws than the Hornets and attempte 6 more than the home team. If you ask Popovich about game 1 free throws, he will probably say that was one of the things they did well by getting to the line 21 times on the road. Since we are discussing stats, i would like to say i think the most glaring stat is the production from the power forward position: Duncan put up a grand total of 5 points, West struggled his way to a cool 30 points.
thanks for playing jefe101, go watch some basketball, read some "how to" books, take notes, and come back when you have something smart to say
