OK, as I'm sure you have all noticed, our esteemed friends from the NY/NJ area seem to think that the refs were out to get them in this past series like some sort of boogie-man. I've heard claims that the Rangers have been penalized 12 times for every penalty the Pens received. The series was so one sided, a Rangers fan claimed that the Pens didn't receive a single penalty in game 5 (not true, they had 4). In order to bring a little intelligence to this debate, I simply counted up the calls by game using the handy-dandy penalty summary on the game recap pages. I can't believe none of them thought to do this before spouting off...
The final tally? I know you are all on the edge of your seat...
NY: 30
PIT: 34
HA! The Pens got called for 4 more penalties than the Rangers...
So how are you Rangers fans going to spin that? I'm sorry, did I take your solace and flush it down the toilet? Well, being an adult is a life long lesson in disappointment. Here endeth the lesson...

I liked that you did your research, but the way you signed off could have you seem less like a child.
Anyways, I'm interested to know the penalty MINUTES both teams accumulated over the series. That could make a huge difference.

The reason the Pens won is because they were better on the power play. Those two penalties oin Rosival were just that; penalties. Stupid, plain and simple. Rangers lost this series in the very first game when they became passive after they got the 3-0 lead .
Bottom line, the better team won. The Rangers were a bunch of underachievers all year who had arguably the best talent in the East. Renney doesn't exactly evoke high emotion in a game that needs it. He's a big disappointment, but if Isaih can hang around for this long, I guess Renney will be around too.
Better think about signing Avery and getting some of those big forwards from the Pens after the playoffs. Malone is a beast and Hossa would look good in blue. We'll have to see.
Good Luck to the Penguins and their fans.

Dr. Cribbit - I meant to post this on the Pens board, not realizing that the last thread I read was on the Rangers board. My smart a$$ attitude was meant for the friendly Pens audience and the Ranger fans who came over there, not to insult you guys. I would be a hypocrite if I came over here to insult you guys as I stand up to those who come to the Pens boards and cause trouble (which is why I took the time to look those calls up). I'm not trying to come over here and pick a fight, only trying to stop the numerous Ranger fans who assaulted our boards with claims of bias and conspiracy theories. So, in essence, I'm sorry. I'd would have deleted the thread if I could after I realized my mistake.
And as for the point of your post, the minutes involved, I really don't want to take the time to add all those minutes up. IMO, a call is a call. If extra minutes are tacked on (like Malkin's 10 min major at the end of game 4) then they are deserved.

It wasn't so much the amount of penalties that were called it was the timing of the calls. We definatly deserved a fair share of penalities, that was our demise all season. We couldn't stay out of the box. But when it comes to Crosby DIVING because he was knocked an inch off his feet by a much smaller Straka. And Drury getting a 4 minute double minor after the same thing happens to him in the first period with no call, we have legitamite beefs. I GUARANTEE you that you guys would be complaining just as much as we would if it happened to you. You guys just have been given the benefit of the doubt so many times that you don't remember being on this side of the fence.
I can't wait until the Crosby affect wears off and a real game will be called. And for the biggest kicker of it all which not a lot of people are talking about is that Dupuis and Crosby were offsides on the game winning goal. Not just 1 person, BUT 2!!!! AND to not blow the wistle when the net was off (50/50 call because the puck was starting to go the other way).
Only one of my Pittsburgh friends admitted to getting all the calls, but all you other Penguins fans are definatly blinded by the bright lights of Crosby and Malkin. Wait till the lights go down.

I did research on my own and these are my findings. Note I did not include any possibility of a non-4v5 situation.
Penalty minute box score, if you will (slash represents new game):
NYR: 2 2 2 2 2 10/ 2 2 2 2 2 2 2/2 2 2 2 4 2/ 2 2 2 2 2 10/ 2 2 2 2 2 4/ 82
PIT: 2 2 2/2 2 2 2 2 2 2/2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2/2 2 2 2 2 2 2 10 2 10/2 2 2 2/ 78
Game by game (more in-depth):
Game one: Rangers 20 minutes vs. Penguins 6 minutes. Penguins won that game and were awarded a total of 14 extra minutes of power play. This game, yeah, I'd be complaining.
Game two: Even at 14 minutes a piece. Penguins won this one, fair and square, nothing to really complain about here.
Game three: Rangers 14 minutes vs. Penguins 18 minutes. The Rangers actually had the power play advantage here, even if it's only by 4 minutes. Pens won this one.
Game four: Rangers 20 minutes vs. Penguins 36 minutes. Rangers have power play advantage for a full 16 minutes and won this one. The Penguins alone earned more minutes in this game than both teams combined in every other game this series (in game five, there was a combined total of 18 minutes, half of the Penguin's minutes in game four.) Like game one, it's fair to make the argument that the insane advantage in minutes was a factor in the Rangers win.
Game five: Rangers 14 minutes vs. Penguins 4 minutes. The Penguins again have a significant advantage in minutes awarded with 10 and take the final game of the series.
Series totals: Rangers 82 minutes vs. Penguins 78 minutes, a 4 minute difference in favor of the Pens. Although it's close, I think it was the game-by-game officiating, especially in games one four and five, that had a huge impact on the series. Again, these numbers don't reflect 4-on-4's or power play goals or anything like that, so factoring those things in might change some of the situations.

But how many penalties do we believe the Rangers got called on them that weren't penaltys. So I did my research and it comes out to about Rangers 82 minutes, Pens 24(+/-60)
