Tar Heels, he was designated for assignment, 1st base was his several times, when his fielding flubbed, his bat turned to stub and so they sent him down without anymore options I believe, I thought the farm club was buying him outright and it seems hes disappeared, but I'm not sure, I also believe he is the son of the former knuckleballer, Phil Niekro, maybe he should of tried pitching ???????

You are correct SFFAN he is the son of Phil Neikro and also he was designated in spring training for assignment. The last I heard he was picked up by Pittsburg but Im not totally sure of that.

As a matter of fact, SFFAN, Neikro did throw a few games out of the bullpen and even started one or two games throwing the knuckelball. His father and uncle were both famous knuckelballers, and he can throw it fairly well. However , he was unsuccessful and ultimately went back to 1B.
Thank you both for responding to my response, whether Joe or Phil, I guess he's with the Astros in some manner, I always pulled for him, but he didn't pan out
Both of u are definately welcome. I remember Kruk and Kuip talking about Lance Neikro during a game near the end of the 2005 season I believe and were saying he was Phil's son but I had to look up the team he went to and I am assuming he is playing 1B down in the Astro's AAA Farm club at least thats what his player profile was saying. I was hoping he would be the Giants 1B man of the future but like u said SFFAN he didnt pan out.
Thumper, I'm going to be at the next 2 games Saturday and Sunday, we seem to match up pretty well with the Phils and we may have Vizquel back, Go Giants or Gigantis !!!!
Vizquel's gonna be back this early. I sure hope he's ready. I heard the Phils are gonna have Rollins back as well so it should be very interesting to see how we do against them.
Lance is the son of JOE Niekro and Phil's nephew. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lance_Niekro
He is another in a long line of 1st basemen who to fail at being the "next Willie McCovey" or the "next Will Clark." Right now, I would settle for the next JT Snow.
