While Paule Maurice may be a nice guy, even a good coach...when the Maple Leafs are

on the edge of a precipice the need to bring in a new coach is clear.

As with Vancouver, it is not good enough for Canadian teams to not make the playoffs.

The sense here was that the Leafs while not awful were a team waiting to implode.

Thus, out here in the west, there never was a sense they were a playoff team.

that said, even though I am not particularly a LEAF FAN, I am a fan of Canadian teams

over the rest. So, I hope they improve.

As for the comment, "can't believe they traded a number 1 draft pick for a goalie..."

As a fan of a team in Vancouver which didn't get any good, in terms of the playoffs,

until be picked up Luongo in goal, I can fully understand why the selection of a goalie

for even 2 number 1 picks is a legitimate deal....especially if, as with Luongo, he is the

guy. Hockey starts with the goalie just as in baseball you start with the catcher.

Rarely is there a team (can you think of one????????) that wins or even makes it to

the semi finals without a stand out in goal.

Good luck Leafs.

The Leafs will NEVER contend for the Cup let alone win one until they find some continuity in the front office and the coaching ranks.  Moreover, all Canadian's have to get off their high horse about their own sense of self entitlement to the Cup.  Not one of your teams has won it since 1993.  1993.  Face it Canucks, the game has shifted South, or at least the winningest teams have.  Good luck to the Leafs and to all of Canada.  You will neeed it.

Of course Canadians feel entitled to more Cup wins than we've been given in the last 20 years - we invented the game.  How would Americans feel if the Raptors and Blue Jays started dominating their respective sports?
