Mine was December 1979' at the old Sombrero in Tampa, FL. My grandparents lived in Sarasota, FL and had season tickets to the Bucs. The game was practically played in a hurricane. From where we were in the Stdium you saw buig splashes every time somebody hit the ground more than you could see the action, I was a kid so i thought it was really cool. It was just me an d my gramps that went and stuck out the game, he had gotten tickets for the whole family but because of the weather they all stayed behind in Sarasota. It was just me and him and a great time we had together. Two guys behind got in a fight over a couple of dollars, I remember the Chiefs kicker (Jan Stenerud) missing a FG in the end zone we were sitting at, later the Tampa kicker (Odonough I believe) hit a chip shot at the end of the game same goal post and the place went nuts, I was a kid so I kept thanking everybody was going to get an orange cream sicle, really, those old Buc uniforms made you thank that. The red Chief pants made me think of Dolly Madison pastries (I was 9) I was never a fat kid, pretty tall and skinny, just jad a sweet tooth. I guess the irony was my gramps mother was born in Norway and that was Jan's last game as a Chief. Gramps died four years later, it was probably one of the biggest moments in Bucaneer history but the Chiefs gave them a hell of a fight in awful conditions. I was probably more Bucs fan that day but the Chiefs caught my eye.

I live in Buffalo, and seeing as the Bucs have never played a regular season game in Buffalo, I had to travel to Minnesota to see my first bucs game. Unfortunately it was also Randy Moss' first game in the NFL and we all remember how that went don't we. I've only been to three Bucs games and the last one is the one I'll remember. It's the only home game I've been to and I got to watch the Bucs play the Bills in 2000. Being harrassed as a Bucs fan my whole life in Buffalo, it was nice to watch them win 31-17 if I remember correctly. Also I think Warrick Dunn had a 100 yrd game and he was the first Running back to do that against the Bills in like 10 games. 10 is just an abitrairy number though. I got to go on the ship and it was a great time. Unfortunately I had to sit in the second to last row in the upper deck w/ a bunch of Bills fans b/c i got the tickets on a bills road game tour. Not this season, but next season it should be interesting to see my first Bucs game in Buffalo.

I grew up on the south side of St. Pete and went to my first Bucs game around '79 or '80 at the big sombrero...being 4 or 5 I don't remember much except being there with my dad and people spilling beer everywhere when they would cheer.  The last Bucs game I went to was up here in Giants stadium with Gradkowski at QB...it was ugly...but the tailgaiting was a blast!

I'm moving down to Charlotte this summer so I'll be able to go to at least one game a year if I want and will be able to watch them a lot more at home instead of going to a sports bar....I'm very happy about that!!

btw, I love that Steve Deberg pick!  That guy played EVERYWHERE...didn't he end his career in Tampa???

December 1979? That was my first Bucs game, too!

There was a waterfall flowing down the aisles, and my Dad ended up taking my cousin and I home in the 3rd quarter. I was 5 years old and crying because I wanted to see the game... Dad was not much of a sports fan, however. I didn't get to see another game until Vinny played the Bears at home in 1987. Very different experience.

October 1987 - Chargers beat the Bucs 17-13. Dad won the tickets on the radio and at the ripe old age of 7, I attended my first Bucs game at the Sombrerro. It was the heyday of the Bucs' terribleness, but I thought it was great. For some reason though, as a kid I had a fixation with the Chargers, so I had to be convinced to root for the Bucs. Went to Hooters afterwards, which took no convincing at all.

Was Bucsnut girl working there? Lol. She needs to slow down she might hurt herself.

I grew up in Tulsa, Ok and went to as USFL game w/the Oklahoma Outlaws and the Michigan Panthers in 84', rained very hard in that game (only about 40degerees). Doug Williams pulled out a 3pt win in that one too (20-17).

Haha... no, Bucsnut girl was a bit young at the time for Hooters. Actually, I think she was working at Raisins (for you South Park fans).

I moved to Clearwater in 84 from the Cincinnati area and it was a huge change for me being 8 yrs old. I wasn't used to the hot weather and bright sun everyday, I was white as a goast. I was always a Bengals fan, but when we moved to FL it wasn't hard for me to switch. The Bucs games were a lot easier to get tickets to and a hell of a lot cheaper. Free off the car windshields! My father and I went to many games since they were free pretty much everytime we went. The Bears and Packers games were always the rowdiest. I used to sit in the Big Sombrero/Houlihan's Stadium and watch the fights break out, beer flung everywhere and fat guys rolling down those steep stairs with the soft rubber glueing them together. Ahhh the good old days. Hooters or Beef O' Bradys was always on the list too, usually after the game b/c if we went there before the game we would never make it.

One game that I remember was, I think in 97 or 98 aginst the Cardinal's, we were just starting to get good (well our defense was anyway) and Dilfer was the QB. It came down to the 4th quarter and no one expected us to drive the length of the field, score a touchdown, and come from behind to win. That just wasn't our style, we usually got ahead and ran the sh*t out of it to hold on, but this day was different.

When Vinny was drafted I remember going to some boat show to get his autograph, soon after that everyone said he was color blind since he threw so many pics. I also thought Gene Wilder was a great RB, the Bucs couldn't put anything together plus Culverhouse was a cheap ass. Mark Carrier, Ron Hall, all those guys from the mid 80's to mid 90's should be shrined for something, I feel sorry for them. You can't forget Donald  Igwebuike a hell of a kicker but not to good of a drug trafficker (is he still in prison?) and good old Bo Jackson who pulled an Elway on us. Anyway go Bucs !!

Sept. '88 - we played the Cardinals.  It was awful, just awful.  At the time I wasn't really a fan, I just was there because the school that I went to (Troy State University) marched the half-time show (and I was in the marching band).  We were in wool uniforms - it was God-awful hot - and Tampa's WR's couldn't have caught a cold that day, let alone a pass.  I remember thinking, "This is pro football?"  My sandlot games were better.  I just wanted it to be over.  Little did I know that later the Bucs would really become my team, and I would  become just as rabid a Tampa fan as some of the others on this board.  And just to let y'all know, yes, they were my team (I was a fan) long before we won the SuperBowl.

It was a game I'll never forget - and now I'm really glad I was there!

Yeah I hear ya about being a fan before the Super Bowl some of those years were very depressing, but I was kind of happy that everybody even those that weren't fans came together and became the fans that we have today during that Super Bowl run. More the merrier as long as they don't try to b.s. the rest of us about being old skool. I'm just happy to be a Bucs fan and I think we are looking good again this year. 1st team ever to be in the Super Bowl in their home town...hopefully. Go Bucs!!
