No love loss here for the Bears, thats no secret.  But I want to attempt to analyze old Chicago. (calm down bears fans Ill try to be objective... coming from this viewpoint)

  • I once read on the bathroom wall at a tigers game:  the best thing to come out of chicago was the fire of 1871.  ok...ok..not funny.

This is basically the same team that went to the superbowl, just a different  LT, RB and a healthy Harris and Brown.   With a top 5 defense  and always specatular special teams, these guys could easily win 10 games.  No joke.   Here is the kicker, they could  just as easily lose 10 games too.  The biggest problem: stability at the QB position!  IMO that position is just too important, and chicago just doesnt get it.  The Bears must think that theyre as good as the Ravens and they can win with a Dilfer type QB, but reality check ~ no theyre not that good.

The skill positions on the bears offense wont scare anybody, not even our dismal defense.  Cedric Benson has disgraced chicago far too long.  They would be wise to Kevin Jones that fool.(cut their loss, start over)  Is Matt Forte the answer there?  I dont know, havent seen much of the kid.  From what Ive read on the net, Chicago would have been wiser to select Kevin Smith with the # 44 pick over Forte.  Very glad that didnt happen!   I think taking Chris Williams at 14 over mendenhall was a good move, I always like to start a team from the lines out.  Williams will make a solid anchor to the line for years. imo.

Old players that are likely to take a step back
John Tate (not sure if he is the same player even with a move to RT)
Mike Brown (all of those injuries had to have affected his play)
Adewale Ogunleye (he's getting up there in years and is likely to lose a step)
Brian Urlacher (his nagging back injury could become a problem)
Olin Kreutz (he's on the wrong side of 30 and isn't quite the force that he once was)
Desmond Clark (getting older and will inevitably get slower)

Since the Bears went to the dance,  I think the balance of power has shifted a bit in the NFC north.  I like what the Vikings are doing, building with probably the best offensive and defensive line in the division.  I like the Lions chances on offense but I havent seen us stopping very many offense's lately!

Opinions?

Haha. Nother, I honestly thing, not trying to be funny, I think the Bears will be lucky to win 3 games. Their response to their dismal offense is to re-sign Rex Grossman and to allow Mushin Muhammad and Bernard Berrian to hit the road. Don't get me wrong, I don't think that either are very good, but they were clearly the Bear's top 2 recievers. Cedric Benson sucks and it should take Matt Forte a while to learn the ropes in the NFL. I guess they expect Devin Hester to lead them to the Super Bowl! Oh ya, Hester has hinted at not reporting for Training Camp if not given a new deal. Wouldn't that be something, there best offensive/special team player and Brian Urlacher, their best defensive player both holding out because of contract issues. Good luck Bear's, you'll need it!!!!!

Not even close.  I follow the Bears closer than anyone and i have never read that Devin Hester isnt going to report or anything like that.

Cedric Benson sucks and it should take Matt Forte a while to learn the ropes in the NFL.

Then how did Adrian Peterson win ROY honors last year?

Because it doesnt take any time for a RB to learn an O.  Especially a one cut runner like AD.

Not to mention, it wasnt Cedric Benson that sucked last year, it was the OL.  Hence why Fred Miller was cut and Ruben Brown was let go without a fight and not Ced.

So i guess Matt Forte is Adrian Peterson already. Hmm...Someone should have told the Raider's that before they wasted the #4 pick on Darren McFadden, they could have gotten Adrian Peterson's clone in round 2!!!!

And I guess the competition that A.D. faced at Oklahoma is the same as the competition that Forte saw at Tulane! Making them equally NFL ready!

Nolovie4smith,

You should be a scout or a general manager! You have knowlege that no one else has! You could be making BANK right now!!!!!!!

Go back to Chicago and have fun watching your team lose 13 games!

That was what was said that i was remarking on.  Then i said.....

I was making a remark that it DOESNT take much time for a RB to learn a system or a playbook.  Especially like the Vikings AD.  He knows where the hole should be and if he sees another hole somewhere else he makes that one cut and goes.

NOWHERE did i compare AD and Matt Forte.  Where did you get that?  Ah, i made an intelligent post and you were just looking for one little thing that you can argue, well, sorry.

So by your logic if i were to say that the Falcons should start Matt Ryan from day one like the Colts did with Peyton Manning, i am then saying that Ryan is the next Manning?

OK heres some more for you.....

Marcus Monk was drafted in the seventh and is a "tweener" WR.  Exactly like Marques Colston was.

The Bears drafted Kyle Orton out of Purdue, thats the same college that the Chargers took Drew Brees from.

The Bears have an undersized RB that was highly successful in college named Garrett Wolfe, he is smaller and almost as fast as Reggie Bush.

Devin Hester was drafted as a return specialist just like Steve Smith was by the Panthers.

This year the Packers took Brian Brohm in the second just like years ago the Falcons took Brett Favre in the second.

Matt Schaub was drafted and traded for a first rounder from the Falcons, just like Brett Favre.

You did? I could have sworn I read a post that had nothing but meaningless Pro-Bear propoganda, Your argument is that Matt Forte will be able to make an imediate impact and it will not take him a while to learn the ropes as I had stated. Your evidence for this was naming one player.

OK, Adrian Peterson Ryan Grant Maurice Jones-Drew Pierre Thomas Ahmad Bradshaw Reggie Bush Marshawn Lynch Cadillac Williams Ronnie Brown Marion Barber Laurance Maroney Joseph Addai and if you want to go old school Gale Sayers set an NFL record his rookie year with 22 TDs.

Anthony Thomas even won ROY.

That enough to prove that a rookie RB can have an impact because it doesnt take long to get in the swing of things?

The fact that my comrade (Nolovie4smith) was attempting to point out to some of you ignorant Lion fans is that running back is probably the easiest position for a college player to transition to in the NFL.  There have been many great rookie running backs throughout the history of the NFL.  If you think the Lions will have a better record than the Bears in 08, you guys are in for yet another let down...and thats saying something since the Lions have the wosrt W-L record in the NFL this decade!!  Let's go by position...

QB - Edge Lions

RB - Edge Bears (more depth)

WR - Edge Lions

OL - Edge Bears

TE - Edge Bears

DL - Edge Bears

LB - Edge Bears

DB - Edge Bears

Special teams - Huge edge Bears

The fact is that No Lovie came into this conversation being extremely objective and was harassed by some morons who know little about football and just assume that someone who is a fan of a team other than the Lions must be spreading lies about their beloved team!!  Try having an intelligent conversation with someone who isn't a fan of your team and you might actually learn something about your team instead of the biased bunch of bs you read about in the Detroit press and hear from other fans.

Also, fact is that the Bears had a very solid draft and if there was a qb worth taking after Matt Ryan that would be an upgrade over what they have and they didn't take him, I'd be the first to point it out.  Another fact, Lions reached big time for Cherilus.  But you would know that if the only people you listen to are other biased Lion fans and the local media...

calm down a bit fella. I get you have lovie4smith. Re read you're own attitude, either you are as big of a moron as those who wich you speak, or you are offended. If the latter, I apologize.

I still think Chicago will be lucky to split with the Lions this season. Not so sure about the edge going to Chicago on the offensive line any more. You could be right but its definatly not cut and dry. Smile.
