After a tough first year for the steeler offensive linemen in which they allowed 47 sacks and still they managed a 10-6 record. This season after having a year under their belts I expect the offensive unit to come together.  I think that Chris Kemoeatu will make everyone forget about Alan Fanaca real fast. Justin Hartwig is going to anchor this line and bring it together.  Willie Colon is going to end up being pushed inside to RG because  Max Starks is going to suprise everyone and steal the Lg spot away from Marvel Smith moving him to the right side where he will split time with Tony Hills grooming him to take over in 09. Kemoeatu, Starks and Colon will be resigned and Hartwig extended and the line won't be a problem for another 5-6 years

Sounds like a good philosophy. We just have to see when the time comes.

I hope ur right. Big Ben might be able to tackle a car head on but he can't continue to take that kind of abuse.

The point is well taken that our line could be set for a while if things fall into place, but the originally post is written in a "best case scenario" form.  I very well think that this could happen, but I also think that we might not see Starx surprise us like that.  He lost his starting job last season during training camp and the preseason.  I wasn't able to break down the game tape to figure out why, but I firmly believe that there was some sort of reason that won't go away anytime soon.

If Starx doesn't step up will we be sunk?  I don't think so, I liked what I saw from Colon at tackle and feel that he could stay out there if Hill, Smith, or Starx don't step up.  But I do think that we will be in trouble if Hartwig doesn't show up like the first post suggested.  We know that Mahan can't do it, and there's no one else at that position who can keep D-line men out of Ben's face and can actually have an impact in the run game.

I hope that the line works out for us, but I'm just not as optimistic and am hesitant to put alot of faith in them.

Big Chuck you have me confused here.  You have everyone playing guard.  Colon is going to beat out Kendall Simmons at RG and Marvel Smith is going to split time with Tony Hills????  Hartwig is just a stop gap until they get someone else to play center.

Sorry I don't see that happening.  I think it will be Hartwig at center, Starks and Smith  at tackles, and Simmons and Kemoeatu at guard.  Colon will be a backup G/T.  If Mahan stays with the team he will be the backup G/C.

He said Marvel would go to the right side - meaning tackle not guard. Either way I think he's crazy. Marvel is a pro-bowl caliber LT who played hurt the whole year in 2007. If he's healthy and ready to go he's at LT. Starks will be on the right side.

Starks is not going to suprise anyone.  He is too big and can't move with the pass rushers.  Kemoeatu, on the other hand, very well may.  I've been hearing good things coming from the coaches about him and what they see.

I'll stick with the wait and see approach when it comes to the o-line this year.  No one was that impressive last year.  Hartwig and a healthy Marvel Smith should make them better.  The Steelers need to decide on a starting five during training camp and let them play together in the preseason games.

I think we have many options with the line. Tony Hill will be my sleeper for 09. We have to decide what were going to do with Starks, Colon and Smith. We gave Starks a lot of money to be a backup..At guard Chris and Simmons should start with Colon backing them up. Ithink we should wash our hands of Mahan and just eat the signing bonus. Hartwig should be alright for a few years while he grooms Legursky.

Kemo's been given the LG spot. I think we'll know who starts at LT by whether STarks is extended or not. Non extension means he;'s a backup, IMO.

I think the Steelers have painted themselves into a corner with Starks.  They are either paying him $7 million or signing him to a big contract.  They will look dumb if he isn't the starter.

Left to right. Marvel Smith, Chris Kemoeatu, Justin Hartwig, Kendall Simmons, Max Starks.  backups: Trai Essex, Tony Hills, Doug Legursky, Sean Mahan, Willie Colon.  Practice squad or just plain sent packing: Jason Capizzi, Jeremy "butter" Parquet. Darnell Stapleton it's now or never, I see another Chucky Okobi prove me wrong.  So my sleeper is Doug Legursky, I think his attitude, durability, and toughness puts him on the roster, not to mention the chip on his shoulder....... The Willie Parker theory if you may.
