His points are both reasonable and logical which suggest he has a grasp on reality. However, with that said, his wandering off course makes it hard to stay with him and makes me wonder about my initial impression of him. I personally find it hard to finish one of his stories because I like articles that are direct and to the point.

3PEATNATION, keep in mind that the guy is way more than a football writer.  That's just a sideline endeavor of his, but a passion nevertheless.

When the season starts, he'll devote much more of his weekly column to NFL items -- but even then, he'll throw in nuggets about black holes in outer space, politics, and (thank God) cheerleaders!  He is a renaissance man, par excellance.

I would encourage you to visit the archived articles he's written in the past.

Of all the opinions he's had, I find the stats he's produced about punting (he hates it) and bad coaching to be the most provocative.  He has convinced me that too conservative coaching in the second half (e.g. punting from one's 40 on 4th and 2, esp. when trailing) is basically a "game over" signal.  With the average rushing play gaining more than 2 yds, he's go for it  every time, make the first down most times and continue what might become a rallying drive, and even when stopped, you send a signal to your defense that you've got confidence in them.  Read him during the season and you'll agree he's "direct and to the point."

Here's a link, if you or anybody else reading this is interested, to the column he devoted last year to the punting issue:

Tell me if it doesn't make sense to you.

bigdavis as I stated before, his points are valid and I have no issue with his ideas. It is the rambling that he has a tendency to add that makes me want to ramble on to another article. If he would stay on course his material would be a pleasure to read.
