FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- A woman called police saying Buffalo Bills rookie wide receiver James Hardy was beating up his father and had pulled a gun when she yelled for him to stop.

The witness told officers she called out for Hardy to stop after hearing a loud noise in the back yard about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a city police report.

Fort Wayne police spokesman Michael Joyner said Tuesday no charges were filed because Hardy was gone when officers arrived and Hardy's father did not want to press charges.

The police report quoted the elder Hardy as saying his son has a lot of anger toward him because he was in prison when his son was young.

Neither Hardy nor his agent, Eugene Parker, immediately responded to phone messages seeking comment.

The 6-foot-6 receiver left Indiana a year early to enter the NFL Draft and was picked by the Bills in the second round last month.

Just think we could be having to deal with this arnt you glad???

Is that true?  If so, I'm glad we passed on him.

yea he has the skills maybe but we dont need the trouble, I think thats why we havnt tried signing Chris Henry from the Bengals or didnt go after Pacman Jones.

The thing is that the Jets are very good at picking good character players.  I think the last schmuck on the team was Keyshawn, and even he never got into trouble with the law if I remember.

This is the reason that I love the JETS.  I think that character is essential.  I love seeing quality guys for kids to look up to.  There are way too many Pacman's and Henry's in the world of sports.

Another great job by JETS management.

Everyone's favorite coach B Parcells seems to love him. Only thing Keyshawn talked alot but I think he backed it up.

About Hardy if it's true it's sad. Never good to see situations like that.

One thing we can count on is that the Jets will always be placing a very high value on quality of character, while we may pass on some players who are questionable, you still stick to your guns in the long run. We will have players who are great players and people. As far as Keyshawn goes, he came into the league immature and insecure, and it showed in his attitude about Chrebet, but one of the reasons I'm a big fan of Keyshawn is that he did mature and became a very good team player who had no fear going over the middle or doing whatever it took to help his team, I wish he had that attitude when we drafted him but I'm glad he grew up and now he is decent anylist and reporter for a past player, there are several players who could learn alot about growing up and being a team player instead of a me player, thats one of the reasons we will never add receivers like Chad Johnson or Chris Henry and others who refuse to see the light. We have great character players on our team and we also have winners, we will do just fine this year without problem players.

It seems like that dead-beat dad wanted a little of that signing bonus now. I would have kicked his ass as well. I hope Hardy will learn from this and stay out of trouble. As far as the Jets passing on him .... Hardy will be a good NFL player, but I'm still happy they passed on him. WR's come a dime a dozen. In my opinion Keller still has more value. The mis-match that he'll create will come in handy on 3rd downs. I can see Keller have 700 yds this year. Not bad for a rookie TE. A huge offensive improvement from Baker.

To evaluate a draft's pick real value you have to see who they would replace and and how much better is that player against the previous player. Keller vs. Baker or Hardy vs. Coles (2nd receiver).
