After watching Scott Linehan for two years as the head coach of the Rams I have come to this conclusion. He is a very good judge of talent but a bad game day coach. I have spent the last three weeks watching the old tapes of the Vikings and Dolphins when he was the OC and he is far from an offensive genius. I have not been one of the guys to bash Linehan, but from his past history he should not have gotten this job. The guy is living of the rep of Moss, Carter, and Culpepper. The Vikings played a careless offense that succedded on superior talent, not gameday coaching. In Miami they had a very good o line and they were pedestrian at best. His first season with the Rams he coached not to lose, and last season was a disaster. Everyone gives this guy a pass because of the injuries, but they shouldn't. Look at what the Buffalo Bills were able to achieve last year with just as many injuries and less talent on paper. As for his first year, the Rams beat up on bad teams at the end of the year to give them an 8 and 8 record.  I believe the coach has lost the locker room and respect of the players. With the tough start the Rams have to open the season the clock is ticking on how long he will remain th head coach of the Rams.

So heading into this season who would you most like to see as the head coach of the Rams? I've included Mike Martz because I believe he recieved a raw deal from the Rams and he had a heck of a winning %.

I do give Linehan credit in the fact the Rams have drafted well since he has been the head coach. If we could combine Linehan's talent evaluation with Martz playcalling I thing we would have a hell of a coach.

Madmike, I voted for Mad Mike.  I've always been a Martz supporter.  He made a big mistake hiring his buddy from Arizona State, Larry Marmie, to run the defense after Lovie took the Bears job.  His biggest mistake, though, was attempting a power grab on Jay Zygmunt.  Zygmunt and John Shaw go way back, and Martz should have known that wasn't going to work.  Maybe by that time Martz was tired of the infighting and just wanted out--who knows?

He was eccentric, his special teams were often awful, and some of his game day decisions left something to be desired, but his players played hard for him and were loyal to the end.  The guy is an offensive genius and was the mastermind behind the Rams' historically great offenses.  You just don't allow people like that to leave your organization--at least, you shouldn't.

Unfortunately for the Rams, Scott Linehan is no Mike Martz.

I voted for Martz also. I really miss the greatest show on turf. I would love to have him back on one condition, run the damn ball once in a while.

I think time will tell on this one. Mike Martz was a great offensive cord but as a head coach I'm not sure.  All those Sundays I was pulling out my hair with his terrible clock management and did he ever win a chalenged call.  But I love his Offense!!  But I think what makes a good or great head coach is letting and trusting your other coaches to do their jobs.  The good coaches controll the game plan and trust the cordinators.  Linehan showed he couldn't  call plays and run the team at the same time.  So I belive this year is the one that matters for him.  If we stay healthy and he can't get it done then I'll agree with his removal until then lets give him his chance.  In his first year if it weren't for 2 50yd fieldgoals by Josh Brown we could have been 10-6 not 8-8.  I  give him credit for at least getting Josh on the Rams team.  Last year was so crazy with the injuries only good thing to come out of it was having the #2 pick in the draft.

I voted for Al Saunders. Mike Martz is an awesome offensive coordinator(one of the best in the NFL) and an average at best head coach. Jim Haslett was far from impressive as head coach of the aints, but he's a great defensive coordinator. Some guys are simply meant to be coordinators and not head coaches( note: Kevin Gilbride OC-Giants, Tom Moore OC-Colts, Monte Kiffen DC-Bucs, and Jim Johnson DC-Eagles).
A great head coach needs to have an overall hold on his team, he has to be able to trust his coordinators and delegate responsibility to them and he has to be able to motivate his players.  We need another Dick Vermeil, someone that lets his coordinators get it done. My dream staff would of been canning Linehan, bringing in Al Saunders to be head coach and getting Mike Martz to come back and be offensive coordinator while haslett remains the defensive coordinator. That would of left us with two incredibly competent coordinators and a head coach with enough experience to delegate responsibility and be the face of the franchise.
Atleast this year we have a competent offensive coordinator to go with a competent defensive coordinator, Linehan will have NO excuses. If we aren't competetive week in and week out along with a winning record(we are in the nfc west, 9-7 or better), then there's no doubt Linehan will NEED to be removed.

madmike1975, I voted for Haslett...  Why?  Because I think with Haslett's intensity (especially on defense) and Al Saunders calling the offense this team could go a long way...

Martz is not a head coach, he is an offensive coordinator (same as Linehan) nothing more...

And the Rams have drafted well the past two drafts because we now have people in place to call that, other than the head coach...  The way it should be...

Just MHO...

I opted to vote for someone else. I loved Martz but his game management is just too helter skelter. Linehan talks a good game but it doesnt seem to be translating into on field sucess but this is indeed his make or break season. Saunders and Haslett are right behind the guy I would love to see coach the Rams and he is my second choice. i think Bill Cowher is the type of coach we need but I feel he be in Carolina b4 we get a crack at him. So we would do well to get Lovie Smith.

I say Linehan. I said this before, this is the first year we have both a true OC and DC. In 2006, Linehan was doing play calling duties until the Carolina game. That is a receipe for disaster. Saunders calling the plays and Haslett running the D will be more than enough to make this a winning team
