I'm a huge Buccaneers fan and I belive the Bucs should pay Jeff Garcia, he's wanting a deal like he had when he 1st signed for 2 years/15 million with 2 million guaranteed. That's not bad seeing how if it wasn't for him we would not have made the playoffs last year. We could do the contract up like a 1 year deal with most of it backloaded, but I'm not sure on the way the cap works.
I would love to see Josh Johnson do something, but he's gonna take at least a year to get things together. Jon Gruden probably wouldn't even let him see the field then so what are we gonna do? If we don't pay Jeff Garcia he'll be unhappy and maybe hold out, then we'll have to do the old Steve Spurrier thing with a committee. I do like Luke McCown, but I'm not sure he's ready to take control or not. Brian Griese is a good back up, but I don't want to rely on him for long stretches. Jeff Garcia is our best chance to make a run. I think Bruce Allen and the Buccaneers are going to work something out for him, but I hope it happens soon so he'll be focused. I would love to see the Buccaneers play and win the Super Bowl in Tampa.

I agree with you Ehart. Give him a couple mil guaranteed. Jeff Garcia is a proven winner with a leader mentality. I like what I saw in McCown last year for the most part, give him another year under Garcia and he may be ready to take over in 2009.

I'd have no problem with upping his deal some, but at the same time we need to realize that we're talking about a guy who most likely isn't going to play all 16 games this year and has at most 2 (even stretching a bit) more productive seasons.
It would have been nice had he worked on getting a new deal without crying to the press about it, though.

I completely agree with what your saying. The Buccaneers hope is in Jeff Garcia's hands, and he had a decently good season (i mean he did make the pro bowl). Although he is getting old, he is the guy that could show the way to younger QB's like Josh Johnson, or Luke McCown or maybe even Bruce Gradkowki. The Buccaneers have a decent amount of talent in their quarterbacks, and I think Jeff Garcia should be the one to lead them through the next couple of seasons.

You all seem to forget that the Bucs won the division a couple of years ago w/ Chris Sims at QB. That year the division was also tougher than it was this year. Garcia was a retread that whinned about his contract in Philly to. That's how we ended up with him. I think his current contract is not only fair but if you forget that at the beginning of last year alot of people around the league were giving a ton of S--t for overpaying for him cause Gruden wanted him. Garcia hasn't put together 2 consecutive good seasons in over 5 years. Lets see him do it again and then give him whatever he wants for another 2 seasons. But if I had to put my money on it I would bet that not only does he not come close to the year he had last year but he won't even make it to the end of the season. This guy is a whinner. He always has been always will be. And for the record I like him I'm not being a hater. I think he brings alot to the table, but just no as much as he seems to think he does.

Also in response to Garcia not putting together 2 good seasons in a row. HELLO!! The Eagles Playoffs, The Bucs Playoffs = Probowl 2007. By the way he sustained two very long drives against a tough AFC defense that game in which he threw 2 touchdowns to T.O.

Pops always told me "why buy the cow if you're getting the milk for free?"
Same type deal here. I'm sure Allen's pop told him this as well. You sign a deal, you honor it. There is no honor in how Garcia is going about this. If he continues this unwaranted fuss into the summer Raymond James will be waiting with a chorus of boo's. Or maybe the boo's will be carried over from the 4th quarter of that Giants game where he earned that pay raise throughing an interception in the endzone.
I wonder if Garcia has seen any of Testeverde's last few pay stubs?

Are you kidding me?? Garcia needs to pack his bags and get out of here. CB and Safties would let our WR go after 40 yards because they knew Garcia couldn't reach them. Joey had to come back to the ball 7-8 times last year and you want to give this bum more money?? You think we are the laughing stock of the league because we have 60 QB's, everyone will will laugh at us if we gave this bum more than a bus ticket to get lost.

Bucone- I hate to call out Bucs fans, but you are and idiot if you think Garcia is a bum. Without Garcia it would have been another 4-12 season. I don't think the Bucs should give Garcia anything, for the fact that he signed and agreed to that contract before last season. If he did not like it then, he should have said something about it BACK THEN not now. The Bucs are the lucky ones in this situation because Garcia is 38 years old, and he knows just as well as the Bucs that no team is going to give him the money he wants. If he sits out then he will be 39 years old at the start of next season, and all that will do is kill his chances even more of a team giving him the money he wants. Garcia knows his back is aginst the wall in this situation, and the Bucs are being smart and takeing advantage of it. If the Bucs were to give him a bigger contract, the Bucs would most likely get the crap side of it in the end. If Garcia was younger I would be all for giving him a bigger contract, but the Bucs are doing the right thing by protecting their money. GO BUCS!
