For the second season in a row the New York Yankees have played Spring Training games well into May, and have fallen behind the competition of the AL East...Some might think this year's debacle is worse cause the Bronx Bombers are in last place, but last season we were 14.5 back after 50 games...We are only 6 back in the division so far this season, and with Spring Training now officially over the New York Yankees will step it up into a new gear!!!
May 20th marks the return of MLB's greatest player, Alex Rodriguez and also on this date we will send our most consistent starter so far this season to the mound, Mike Mussina (can't believe I'm saying that)....With A-Rod's bat in the line-up the pressure will be off the other's that surround him and now we can just get back to baseball...I fully expect a different Yankees squad Tuesday night in the Bronx after the two embarrassing losses to the cross town rival, New York Mets!!!
So May 20th marks opening night in the Bronx and the 2008 season begins...I seriously can't wait to see the opening pitch in the final season of Yankee Stadium!!! I'm extremely happy the Yankees are giving the start to Mike Mussina, as he deserved it with his excellent work in Spring Training!!!
Here's to Robinson Cano winning the American League batting title and Alex Rodriguez taking home his 2nd straight MVP award...Lets not forget Chien-Ming Wang takin home the Cy Young award...This is gonna be a great final season in Yankees Stadium history as we have the All-Star celebrations here and we will be holding the trophy at season's end...
Bye-bye Spring Training, Hello Regular Season, 2008!!!!

God I hope you are right on this one. It almost looks like our guys think spring training ends after the all-star break.

It's nice to see the positive outlook on things. I really hope that things start to turn around soon, and tomorrow is as good a day as any. Welcome back A-Rod, and good luck Moose.

Way to see the glass half full. This Yankees team doesn't seem to have that turn on switch the other teams had. I hope I am wrong on this one.

I haven't seen anything out of this team yet, that shows the ability to turn it on either. I have though, become so accustomed to them doing it year after year, that I have to believe that they can.
Look at the brightside. The Yankees have had a ton of problems to this point in the season. They have only lost 5 more games then the team with the best record in the A.L. That's not so bad considering all of the injuries, poor pitching performances, and the April schedule. As fans we should believe nothing different... it will get better.
Go Yankees!

you will end the season as a .500 team or close to it. You do not have the hitting, and most definitely neither the pitching nor fielding to compete. The N.L. would be a little better if u played there but not much. Why dont u draft good good hitters and pitchers like the BoSox do? , it would make it easier not to suck as badly as you do

Why dont u draft good good hitters and pitchers like the BoSox do?
I didn't know the Red Sox drafted Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, Mike Lowell, J.D. Drew, Julio Lugo, Josh Beckett, Curt Schilling, Tim Wakefield, and many others...Man, that is some serious drafting by the BoSox!!!
The Sox and Yankees have the same amount of home grown talent on their teams...As a matter of fact, I would say the Yankees have more...I mean you got Jorge Posada, Robinson Cano, Derek Jeter, Melky Cabrera, Mariano Rivera, Ian Kennedy, Phil Hughes, Daryl Rasner, Andy Pettitte and more..
You say to draft better pitchers...Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain, Ian Kennedy, Alan Horne, and many others in system are young talent that will produce down the road..Take it easy my man!!!
The Yankees are hurting right now, but I'm pretty sure you were saying the same thing last season when your Sox were up 14.5 games after May...I'm pretty sure the Yankees only finished two games behind your boys, and made the playoffs for the 13th straight season...I'm not too worried about it!!!
Tonight is opening night in the Bronx as extended Spring Training ended on Sunday!!!

Hey NY, brokeback is not one of the most intelligent baseball fans, so you might be wasting your time trying to make a point to him. He's the typical "Yankees suck, Red Sox rule" kind of guy. No real meaning or factual evidence to what he says. All these guys seem to forget that a majority of the Yankee team and payroll is homegrown talent, that is now being paid because they have earned it. Yes, the Yankees do go out and pay for top notch free agents, as do the other competitive teams, but they would not have been in the post season the last 13 years if not for the players they drafted and brought up through their system.
Anyway, what better way to re-start this seaon then a sweep of the surprising Baltimore Orioles? It would be a good boost to the team, and a good boost for Yankees fans. To do this though, we'll need to get the first win for Ian Kennedy, and I feel pretty good about it.
Let's go Yankees, and welcome back A-Rod!
