CINCINNATI (AP)—Troubled linebacker Odell Thurman has been released by the Cincinnati Bengals, one month after he was reinstated by the NFL from a two-year suspension.

The Bengals said Monday that Thurman wasn’t meeting expectations. The Bengals are holding voluntary workouts in preparation for the team’s mandatory minicamp next month.

The move comes one month after the Bengals released receiver Chris Henry following his fifth arrest.

Thurman was suspended for the 2006 season by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell after he skipped a drug test and was arrested for drunken driving. The suspension was extended through the 2007 season.

Talk about a guy with a ton of upside and no miles.  I don't like the baggage, but we need a young LB and his price should be right.  Also, with Willie retiring after this year my bet is that he would put the fear of god into any other LB if they mess up his fairwell tour.  What do you guys think?

I think I am for this one. Like you said, he may come cheap and may want to show the Bengals that he can still play. I am not sure what, "hasn't lived up to expectation" means. Heck he has only been back a month. He hasn't played in almost 2 years, what type of expectation do you have. He has a new cast around him in LB's . I would like to scoop him up and let him play on special teams until he gets back to "expectation". It isn't like he cannot play, it is just he hasn't .

Tripp....u took the words right out of my mouth..........Romeo is a good coach who can get the most out of him.....players want to play for Romeo......I would love to see him.........in a Browns uniform.........But!  aren't we always the ones on the losing end of deals like this......meaning the cheaters from Foxboro will get him on the cheap and he will go on to win 2 SB's and play for them for 7 years with no problem???

i think he would solidify the "D"

what say u fellow Browns fans?????

I say go after him.... I think we actually would be a place he might look fondly on... we play in the same division and he would play the bungles twice a year.. plus he could be another piece of the defense that would help solidify it... we got a new d line and with him paired with wembley would be dangerous.... he served his time and seems to be ok now... we havn't heard much about him since he got in trouble... go get him Phil....

You guys are acting like he spent the last two years training for his return.  He was CUT by the Bengals for not being up to expectations, which means he is out of shape.  His baggage is pretty nasty.  I can't imagine a scenario where we would go after him.

He was CUT by the Bengals for not being up to expectations, which means he is out of shape.I just read on espn that he was cut for "family reasons", not being out of shape.  In any other way, i say go for him.  He'll probably end up getting another shot in the AFC North bc he'll want to show up Marvin.

Personally, I don't want to see that train wreck in Cleveland.
