Mets make many roster moves: According to MLB.com, the Mets optioned outfielder Ben Johnson and infielder Anderson Hernandez to their Triple-A New Orleans affiliate on Thursday. They also reassigned veteran catchers Sandy Alomar Jr. and Mike DiFelice, first baseman Mike Carp, infielder Ruben Gotay and reliever Lina Urdaneta to the minor league camp and outrighted Jorge Sosa to the New Orleans roster. (Updated 03/30/2007).

Fantasy Analysis
Hernandez had a chance to make the roster as a backup infielder, but it looks as though the team wants him to get more at-bats in the minors. When the Mets traded for Johnson, they figured he would have no problems being the team's fourth outfielder to open the season. But David Newhan and Lastings Milledge have had great springs and that left Johnson on the outside looking in. Alomar and DiFelice are over the hill catchers and should be ignored in all Fantasy formats. Carp is a decent long-term keeper. The Mets see him one day as their future first baseman. The ongoing saga with Jorge Sosa continues. There is no need to keep him on rosters while he is in the minors. There is also no need to bother with Gotay or Urdaneta as well. (Updated 03/30/2007).
