Reds RP Francisco Cordero blew his first save opportunity Wednesday in what have should have been a slam-dunk outing against the Marlins. Cincinnati lead 6-0 going into the ninth inning before Luis Gonzalez broke the shutout with an RBI double off Mike Lincoln, who left with the bases loaded and no outs. Cordero, who had been 7-for-7 in save chances, came on and gave up a two-run single to Matt Treanor. After striking out pinch hitter Mike Jacobs, Cody Ross hit a three-run homer to left field. It was the first home run allowed this season by Cordero, who retired the next two hitters but the damage was done. He struck out two in the inning. (Updated 05/14/2008).

Fantasy Analysis
Cordero had pitched three of the previous four days and looked very tired on the mound Wednesday. Perhaps it was a bad call by manager Dusty Baker to put him out for a third straight day. All closers have bad games and Cordero had one Wednesday. Let's hope it is not a trend that continues. He is still an elite Fantasy RP. (Updated 05/14/2008).
