Bard lands on 15-day DL: The San Diego Padres placed catcher Josh Bard on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right elbow on Saturday and recalled Luke Carlin from Triple-A Portland.

Fantasy Analysis

Bard injured his elbow during early batting practice Friday before the Padres opened a weekend series against Colorado. He is going on the DL for the second time this season. He missed two months after spraining his left ankle on May 21 and was activated July 24. He was 5-for-18 with a home run and five RBI before getting hurt again. He is hitting .209 in 148 at-bats this season. Bard doesn't play regularly and doesn't produce particularly good numbers even when he plays. Leave him for NL-only leagues when healthy.

The move is retroactive to Thursday. Bard injured his elbow during early batting practice Friday before the Padres opened a weekend series against Colorado. He was scratched from the lineup and examined by Rockies medical director Dr. Thomas Noonan on Friday.
