Nationals SP Odalis Perez tossed five innings Wednesday against the Astros and did not factor in a 4-3 win for Houston. Perez carried a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning before allowing a leadoff homers to Lance Berkman. His struggles continued as Roy Oswalt ripped a two-RBI single later in the inning. Perez left down 3-2, but Washington tied the game in sixth on a solo home run by Ryan Zimmerman. Perez allowed three runs, five hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out three. Fantasy Analysis
Perez has now managed four straight no decisions while allowing seven earned runs in his last 24 innings. Perez has actually allowed two or fewer earned runs in five of his last six starts, but just doesn't get enough offensive support when on the hill. Perez has actually been a better-than-expected ace for the Nationals, but since he is going to have trouble racking up wins, he remains just a low-end Fantasy SP. His next scheduled start is for Monday against the Mets, a team he lost to April 15 despite allowing two runs in six innings. He is on track to be a two-start pitcher Fantasy Week 7 (May 12-18) with his second start coming against the Orioles. (Updated 05/07/2008).
