May 14--ST. PETERSBURG -- Once again, Edwin Jackson deserved to win. Once again, he didn't, thanks to a blown save by Troy Percival.
Once again, it didn't matter.
The Tampa Bay Rays won anyway, beating the New York Yankees 2-1 in 11 innings Tuesday to move past the Boston Red Sox and into first place in the American League East.
"It's a team game," Jackson said. "Any time your team gets a win, and you contribute to it, it's great."
Jackson allowed five hits in seven scoreless innings to extend his scoreless streak to 15.
He did that by attacking the Yankees with fastballs.
While his record still stands at 2-3, he lowered his ERA under 4.00 to 3.47 and looks like the dominate Edwin Jackson who started the season with a pair of victories.
Perhaps the hard-throwing right-hander has finally found himself.
"He has the last two times out," Rays manager Joe Maddon said.
Jackson managed to remain poised in the sixth inning when Derek Jeter smacked a one-out line-drive to right-center field that Eric Hinske dived for and missed. Jeter reached third as the ball rolled to the wall.
The Yankees had the tying run on third and had two lefties waiting to bat. But Jackson got Bobby Abreu to ground out to shortstop and Hideki Matsui to pop up to short.
As for the streak?
