Griffey gets last laugh on teammate with unusual payment

CINCINNATI -- Ken Griffey Jr. owed Cincinnati Reds teammate Josh Fogg $1,500, and paying by check just wouldn't do.

So when Fogg arrived in the Reds clubhouse Wednesday, he found his locker filled with 150,000 pennies -- 60 boxes, each weighing 16 pounds and containing $25 worth of pennies.

"Basically, it's like having 60 bowling balls in your locker, only with no holes to pick them up with," Griffey said.

Neither player would say why Griffey owed Fogg the money. Griffey had threatened to pay it off in pennies, but Fogg didn't believe him.

"I'm going to take them out to the bullpen and count them," Fogg said. "I've got a lot of time on my hands out there."

"Hey Josh"

"Yeah Jr"

"I bet that I can hit my 600th before you get your ERA under 10."

"Alright Jr, you're on!"

Now you know the rest of the story.  Fogg ERA = 9.27

He made the call to the bullpen and waged that the Reds bullpen could hold a 6-0 lead in the ninth inning against the Marlins Wednesday night. What was he thinking??

Seriously, where did Griffey buy all of his time to get all these pennies? Fogg better have a good money counting machine that rolls them up into those stacks you deposit at the bank. Now you know, if you want to get rid of your excess pennies, take them to Ken Griffey's Penny Processing Workshop

I mean seeing as how he's so into wasting money. But on a lighter note, this is hilarious. I love when players mess around with each other like this. Reminds me of the joking that goes on in my fire department. Good morale boys.

That no team in their right mind would hold onto a player as bad as Fogg through mid-May... and it's May 15th.  AKA  Payday.
