Perez carried a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning before allowing a leadoff homers to Lance Berkman. His struggles continued as Roy Oswalt ripped a two-RBI single later in the inning. Perez left down 3-2, but Washington tied the game in sixth on a solo home run by Ryan Zimmerman. Perez allowed three runs, five hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out three.

    The Nationals officially placed catcher Paul Lo Duca (broken hand) along with backup catcher Johnny Estrada (ulnar neuritis in his right elbow) on the 15-day DL Friday. Estrada hasn't played since April 30. "He's not making any progress, and his elbow is bothering him," manager Manny Acta said. "He's going to see another doctor and we'll go from there." The team called up catcher Jesus Flores and outfielder Elijah Dukes from Triple-A Columbus on Friday to fill the roster spots. Dukes was finishing a rehab stint after injuring his right hamstring.

Hill held the Marlins to five hits and two runs in seven innings before handing it over to Ayala. Hill also struck out one and allowed a solo home run to Dan Uggla.     The Sports Xchange reports that Nationals RP Chad Cordero, who tore his right latissimus dorsi muscle on April 29 against the Braves, said his rehab is on schedule so far. He is still expected to be out another month, but began a weight program to strengthen his shoulder Friday. "I'm trying to do a little bit more, but trying not to do it to the point where it's going to hurt or anything like that. Everything we're doing right now is to make sure it's getting stronger, stretching out and nothing else gets worse."
