Outfielder Torii Hunter rejoined the Angels in Baltimore Friday after spending the past three days with his family in Arkansas.
Hunter's grandmother, Edna Cobbs, had been ill for the past five years and died on Friday morning. But Hunter said he got peace of mind from being able to visit her one more time and say his goodbyes.
"I'm sad. But she's been suffering for a while and I'm kind of happy she's not suffering anymore," Hunter said. "It's been rough, man. But I'll be okay. This is my safe haven. For those three or four hours you're playing, there's not much else you think about."
Hunter was activated from the bereavement list and went 1-for-4 with at two-run double in Friday's victory over the Orioles. Right-hander Jason Bulger was returned to Class AAA Salt Lake.
Hunter will leave the team again in order to attend Cobbs' funeral next Saturday. He might only miss two games, however (the final two games of the Angels' series in New York). A second trip to the bereavement list would require at least a three-game stay.
"She helped raise me. She always took care of us," Hunter said of his grandmother. "I remember I ran away from home one time, mad at my mom. She (his grandmother) took me in. She told my mom to pretend like she was mad at me so I couldn't come home.
"I was nine or 10 years old. After a week, I started missing my mom so I went home."
ANGELS 6, ORIOLES 5: The Angels scored five times in the first two innings Friday, chasing Orioles LHP Brian Burres. But they had to hold on for their 20th one-run victory of the season. LHP Joe Saunders took a 5-1 lead into the seventh inning but gave up three runs before Scot Shields bailed him out. An eighth-inning RBI single by Garret Anderson made it a two-run game but RHP Francisco Rodriguez gave up a solo home run to Kevin Millar in the bottom of the ninth before closing it out for his 43rd save of the season.

word on the street is the tex is coming to then Angels for Quinlan and Wood. I like the trade personally but I would rather Kotchman then Tex. If we get Tex I think that will make Rivera expendable.
The rumors of a possible deal to get Teixeira has had a lot of people buzzing as to whether or not the Angels should pick him up. Here is my take. If the Angels could get him for the right price they should definitely go after him. Unless the Braves want to see happen t

We open our East Coast roadtrip tonight with a stop in Baltimore for a 3-game set. The Angels are throwing out Saunders, Garland, and Santana. Of the three, Garland has the highest ERA of a little over +4.00, while the ERA of the 3 projected startes for the Orioles are at
As a Twins fan and overall baseball fan, I can't help but look at the Angels lineup and wonder how it gets set up as it does. What I'm wondering is why H
