--SS Julio Lugo was scratched from Saturday night's starting lineup after a Friday collision left the Sox infielder with what Sox medical officials termed a "mild concussion." Lugo was going from first to third when he collided with Minnesota 2B Matt Tolbert, and later complained of both dizziness and light headaches that kept him out of Saturday and Sunday's games. Lugo had made four errors in his last eight games prior to sustaining the head injury, and is considered day-to-day with the Sox until his symptoms subside.

--RHP Curt Schilling threw something in the neighborhood of 40 tosses from 60-feet again on Saturday, and is hoping to extend the toss distance to 90 feet sometime within the next week. Schilling continues to maintain a cautious approach to the slow steps taken in this season's comeback, but also retains optimism that there have been no setbacks yet in his throwing program. Schilling said that he hasn't felt any pain in his shoulder since undergoing a cortisone shot to the trouble area in February. --C Jason Varitek and several of his Sox teammates were getting into the swing of Mother's Day by utilizing pink baseball equipment meant to show support for breast cancer research. Varitek wore pink catcher's gear, including a new face mask, shin guard and chest protector as a show of support, and plans to auction off the items on the Red Sox web site to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

--RHP Bartolo Colon threw three innings of one-run ball on Saturday afternoon and reportedly hit 97 mph on the radar gun for Class AAA Pawtucket. The 34-year-old right-hander allowed four hits and struck out two batters and should be in line for several more minor league starts before a roster decision is necessitated. The veteran starter could be an excellent solution to ease some of the heavy innings-pitched burden off RHP Clay Buchholz and LHP Jon Lester during the dog days.

--RHP Bryan Corey was traded to the San Diego Padres for either cash or a player to be named later on Sunday afternoon after he couldn't crack the Red Sox 25-man roster. The 34-year-old Corey had two different stints with the big league club this season, but posted a 10.50 ERA in seven games with the Sox this season while struggling to retire right-handed batters.

BY THE NUMBERS
2-9 - The Red Sox record in domes this season through the end of last weekend. The record includes getting swept in both the Rogers Centre in Toronto and Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"Depends on what you're trying to do. If you're looking to get paid, you hit more home runs. I'm just trying to take a good swing at the ball. It's just happening." -- 1B Kevin Youkilis, talking about his power surge after hitting four home runs in four days against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.

The Royal Rooters, that's what a should've called my thread! How silly of me! Justa nice little spot for Sox fans to b!tch and moan like most of Bostonites like to do! But be forewarned, the rules are the same, talk of anything you want, speak your mind, just no politics! (or religion)

I want the opinion of fellow Sox fans on the state of our bullpen. Let me first say that we are solid with Papelbon and Okajima, but we are horrible after that. If we don't get help soon, we are going to wear these 2 guys out. They are both on pace to throw more innings than last year and we need these guys strong if we are to do anything in the post-season.

I was just watching sportscenter and saw a highlight where the Sox were visiting the President and he (jokingly) said ..."Manny Ramirez isn't here, I think his Grandmother passed away again" then gave his I'm so great smirk.

I can't believe that at some point his speech writers and he agreed that ...(more)

I know he played well today, but we're better with him on the bench and it seems like there is some serious thought in benching lugo.

Which of the youngsters should we trade to get a big bat in the lineup if Manny leave this year?  I simply do not see him staying after the 10 year threat of the trade.  He is going to get huge money somewhere, even though he is 36.  I would hate to lose him, but I think he will get paid more than he is worth.
