It would have been interesting to have bugged the conversation manager Jim Leyland planned to have Monday with his general manager, Dave Dombrowski.

Not only would some ears have been burned, but maybe some futures, too.

"We have a lot of issues to deal with right now," Leyland said after Detroit's seventh shutout loss of the season Sunday. "That's why I'm meeting with Dave. I'll be able to clear some stuff up, hopefully, in the near future. We've got a lot of issues to address."

It's not going to be as easy as simply bringing up somebody from the minors. There aren't any answers there.

It's not going to be as easy as simply plugging outfielder Matt Joyce into the lineup on a regular basis. He's providing the club with what little life it has now, but regular exposure to major league pitching will expose the holes that exist in his swing, probably breaking pitches and off-speed stuff.

"I can't believe it. I can't believe we've been shut out like this. I can't believe it," Leyland said. "I'm totally out of answers as far as the offense.

"I don't think about whether it's early or late (in the season), I think about why aren't we doing better? I think about why is this team not playing better, why isn't it hitting better? What's going on? Maybe we're waiting on each other to do it. Maybe we're doing that and I don't realize it. I don't know. This offense is not supposed to get shut out like that. Or as often as it has been. I can't sugarcoat it. I don't know the answer. It's mind-boggling to me."

What Leyland and Dombrowski could decide is who to put quietly on the market and who to keep the faith in. It's unlikely the Tigers will eat the $30 million or so they owe designated hitter Gary Sheffield, but it's entirely possible the organization will step up efforts to peddle some of the expensive contracts that have become liabilities, even if it means paying to get rid of them.

It's tough. There's no market yet, especially for high-priced players who aren't producing. The 'Wish' season doesn't begin until the All-Star game and the "Hope" season isn't until a month after that.

Isn't it telling that many of us are becoming more familiar (or even "experts") in who are the up and comers from the minors, because of the feeling of futility that the Detroit Tigers are spreading among the fans?  I, for one, have made more of an effort to keep track of some of the prospects that we may eventually s ...(more)

Here we go.  6-1/2 games back, and the Tigers find themselves facing the Seattle Mariners at Comerica Park.  A battle of teams trying to get it together before their deficits become too large to overcome.  This is the time for the Tigers to pounce.

Detroit ...(more)

Name this pitcher.

Class-A Lakeland has a young pitcher that has tossed a no-hitter going into the 8th inning in two separate outings this season.  The 1st was on April 26, retiring the first 21 batters.  The most recent was May 18th.

In his last 5 starts, his record is 3-1, with a 3.15 ERA

In his 1st 7 starts, his ERA was 7.64.

He was a 7th roun ...(more)

I'm going to the Tigers and Mariners game today and the only reason I'm excited is because its Curtis Granderson Bobblehead day.  Sure, I still love going to the ballpark and the atmosphere of the game, but ...(more)

How long will it take before the Tigers can get it turned around?  Looking at the batting averages, they aren't terrible.  Not great, but I've seen worse when we've been in last place.

Our starting pitching has been decent as of late.  They have been stronger and more consistent.  Yes, still ...(more)

Wow the Tigers just got swept by the Royals... AGAIN! What is up with this? You can't just falt the pitching, which has been terrible. But the hitting and not coming up with timely hits. Sure, the Tigers have hit plenty of homers this year. But it seems lik ...(more)

(POLL)

With today's loss in Arizona, the Tigers now have the poorest record in the American League, 17-24 for a .386 winning pct.  Seattle is next poorest at 18-27 for a .400 winning pct. .  The brighter side is that the team is only 6 1/2 out of first in the division.

Back in April I posted a poll with the choices being ...(more)

Why is this guy still our pitching coach?  Does no one else feel like this is getting out of control.  Every pitcher he touches, gets worse, Verlander, Robertson and Bonderman have all gotten worse, Rodney can't even throw and we have not had one fixture in the bullpen.  Lee Mazzone is somewhere on a rocking chair in Georgia having had one of the best track records with pitcher ...(more)

Answer:  Gary Sheffield.   When will the Tigers cut ties with this guy?  Does he have some dirt on Leyland and Dobrowsky?

I apologize if I have misled any Tiger fans on this board. For weeks I have been referring to the Tigers as over-hyped and under performing....calling them a flawed ball club. I was wrong! The Detroit Tigers are just a bad ball club. No hit, no field, no pitch, no heart. It is a real shame that Mr. ...(more)
