In his first start since throwing a career-high 121 pitches, LHP Scott Olsen's velocity didn't top 90 on Sunday. He allowed four runs in five innings, leaving after just 59 pitches.

Neither Olsen nor the Marlins sounded worried. Olsen suggested his drop in velocity could be related to fatigue from his previous start.

"I've never thrown that long before," he said of his start May 6 against Milwaukee, "so there may be a little carryover affect. But I thought I did a good job of pacing myself between last start and this start throwing-wise, not doing too much. We'll go out there on Friday night against Kansas City and see what happens."

Olsen missed most of spring training with tendonitis in his left shoulder but he is off to the best start of his career -- 4-1 with a 2.63 ERA.

"Obviously, we didn't feel great," Olsen said after Florida's 5-4 win Sunday. "You could tell that by looking at the radar gun."

MARLINS 5, NATIONALS 4: On a day their best pitcher struggled, the Marlins still found a way to win. 2B Dan Uggla continued his tear with two home runs, the second of which lifted Florida to a 5-4 lead in the eighth inning. Uggla hit a grand slam Saturday. He was plunked with a pitch in his first at-bat Sunday, but came around to score Florida's first run.

Marlins starter Scott Olsen knows he has one job to do -- and that job does not involve trying to bring fans to Dolphin Stadium.

But one thing that might help that cause is the reported signing of 24-year-old shortstop ...(more)

This act might be dramatic, but it just doesn't work.

This latest Marlins trend is exciting but fruitless. If you haven't been paying attention to the first-place Marlins, they not only have been losing lately, but doing it in their own style.

Here is how it works:

They make costl ...(more)

All year long, after committing a Major League-leading 137 errors in 2007, Marlins players have sported gray T-shirts that read: "Marlins Defense: It's a Commitment."

That commitment took a step back Friday night.

Florida, which sported the worst fielding percentage in the big leagues going into their first ...(more)

The Marlins can create buzz. They showed that this week while briefly achieving baseball's best mark.

But turning buzz into butts in seats is going to be a whole other story for the club that reached first place with the sport's lowest payroll.

A three-game slide hasn't knocked the Marlins out of first place in the National League East. It also hasn't diminished the fact they've won seven of their last 10, and finished up a road trip at 3-3.

The team hopes the enthusiasm that has built around the club will spread to South Florida when the Marlins open their Interl ...(more)

On one hand, Thursday's rainout gave the Marlins a much-needed day off after playing nine straight games. On the other, it made sure they left Great American Ball Park with a bitter taste in their mouth.

Thursday's four-game-series finale with the Reds was called by the ...(more)

You want to point a finger at someone for the recent struggles of the Marlins-- Blame Fredi Gonzalez, as usual, evertime this team tries to get on a roll or actuall is in one, he for some reason fails to do the necessary things to continue the streak.

Once again he fails to start ...(more)

I don't know how accurate, or up to date this is, but here is a sketch of what the new Marlins ballpark may look like. You can scroll down to see a few pictures.
