The meeting didn't last long.

Jimmy Rollins walked into the Phillies' clubhouse at AT&T Park on Friday and talked to manager Charlie Manuel, general manager Pat Gillick and athletic trainer Scott Sheridan. He said his sprained left ankle had healed enough to return to the Phillies' lineup, and moments later, he was activated from the disabled list.

Then, he proved he was ready to be back.

Rollins came within a triple of hitting for the cycle with his parents and five members of his extended family in attendance Friday night and fueled the Phillies' 7-4 win over the Giants in the opener of a three-game series.

"It's J-Roll Day by the Bay," cheerful manager Charlie Manuel said before the game.

After grounding out -- but running well -- in his first two at-bats, Rollins clocked a two-out, two-run home run in the fifth inning against Giants lefty Pat Misch to draw the Phillies within 4-3.

Then, after Pedro Feliz's sixth-inning double tied the game and the Phillies went ahead in the eighth on Carlos Ruiz's fielder's choice and a pinch-hit RBI single by Greg Dobbs, Rollins doubled off reliever Keiichi Yabu to open a three-run lead.

In between, he laced a seventh-inning single, and all the while, showed no lingering effects from an injury that nagged him for more than a month.

"I found some things I was doing in spring training last year that got away from me," Rollins said. "You asked me what I learned when I was out. I guess I learned how to remember. They were little adjustments, but they were things you forget when you haven't played in a month."

PHILLIES 7, GIANTS 4: Jimmy Rollins went 3-for-5 in his return from the disabled list Friday, and Pedro Feliz went 2-for-5 in his return to San Francisco. Rollins came within a triple of hitting for the cycle in his first start since April 8 when he sprained his left ankle. Feliz, who hit at least 20 home runs in four straight seasons for the Giants before signing with the Phillies as a free agent in January, ripped an RBI double. Cole Hamels allowed four runs in seven innings to improve to 4-3. Brad Lidge tossed a scoreless ninth inning and hasn't allowed an earned run in 17 innings this season.

Gary Matthews just said that Jason Werth is a five tool player except for the average.  Why is he doing games?  He got's bad voice, no chemistry with the other guys, and he makes stupid comments like that one about Werth.  Except for this, Matthews is a great announcer.  I mean ...(more)

Would you cut Chris Snelling and bring in Edmonds. I would. I still thinks he has some gas left. He has won a World Championship. Why not?

Congrats to him.

They should think about a reward to the minors; it helped him last year.

(POLL)

That is the poll!!

Considering we're the EXPERTS on booing, there is an issue of booing at Shea.

Freedom Of Speech, a paying customer, etc. dictates any and all booing is acceptable.

NYM fans care MORE about their team, which justifies them in booing more than any other MLB team.  I like this Mets' f ...(more)

MR. MOSES,

Why don't YOU tell us who's better than Utley,

and if Holliday deserved the MVP over J-Roll?

You've been so kind to let us know that Tex & Miggy are better than Rynosaur, and that Pujols should have got the MVP over him also.  Plus, we cannot afford him like Los ...(more)

Not to throw the my devistating family curse on him, but LIDGE is a STUD! I thought of this (and I am sure I was the first to think of this ("sarcasm" look it up before trashing me)) as I was watching the Phils highlights on sports center. In the win, Lidge struck out the side to save the game. Didn't even mention his name. Guy is 1-0, 9/9 in saves, and has a 0.00 ERA in 19 inn ...(more)
