Jimmy Rollins walked into the Phillies' clubhouse at AT&T Park on Friday and talked to manager Charlie Manuel, general manager Pat Gillick and athletic trainer Scott Sheridan. He said his sprained left ankle had healed enough to return to the Phillies' lineup, and moments later, he was activated from the disabled list.
Then, he proved he was ready to be back.
Rollins came within a triple of hitting for the cycle with his parents and five members of his extended family in attendance Friday night and fueled the Phillies' 7-4 win over the Giants in the opener of a three-game series.
"It's J-Roll Day by the Bay," cheerful manager Charlie Manuel said before the game.
After grounding out -- but running well -- in his first two at-bats, Rollins clocked a two-out, two-run home run in the fifth inning against Giants lefty Pat Misch to draw the Phillies within 4-3.
Then, after Pedro Feliz's sixth-inning double tied the game and the Phillies went ahead in the eighth on Carlos Ruiz's fielder's choice and a pinch-hit RBI single by Greg Dobbs, Rollins doubled off reliever Keiichi Yabu to open a three-run lead.
In between, he laced a seventh-inning single, and all the while, showed no lingering effects from an injury that nagged him for more than a month.
"I found some things I was doing in spring training last year that got away from me," Rollins said. "You asked me what I learned when I was out. I guess I learned how to remember. They were little adjustments, but they were things you forget when you haven't played in a month."
PHILLIES 7, GIANTS 4: Jimmy Rollins went 3-for-5 in his return from the disabled list Friday, and Pedro Feliz went 2-for-5 in his return to San Francisco. Rollins came within a triple of hitting for the cycle in his first start since April 8 when he sprained his left ankle. Feliz, who hit at least 20 home runs in four straight seasons for the Giants before signing with the Phillies as a free agent in January, ripped an RBI double. Cole Hamels allowed four runs in seven innings to improve to 4-3. Brad Lidge tossed a scoreless ninth inning and hasn't allowed an earned run in 17 innings this season.

I was wondering what Phillies fans think about Curt Schilling, aka the Big Blowhard. If he does go in the HOF, should it be with a Phillies hat? Please pick your choice.
Maybe i'm reading into this a lil to much, but how come Cole Hamels has pitched against the Mets once in 4 series..this year? This is your staff ACE and this rivalry has become a BIG thing. Why wouldn't you try and SQUEEZE him into the rotation
