--SS Jack Wilson went 1-for-3 and played six innings in the field without incident Thursday for Class AAA Indianapolis in his first game on an injury rehabilitation assignment. Wilson has been on the disabled list since April 4 with a slightly torn left calf muscle.
--RHP Evan Meek was assigned to Class AA Altoona after being designated for assignment and clearing waivers. Meek, a Rule 5 Draft pick from Tampa Bay, was 0-1 with a 6.92 ERA in nine relief appearances with the Pirates to begin the season.
--RHP Ian Snell, the Pirates' Opening Day starter, is now winless in his last six starts after getting a no-decision Thursday. He was hammered for five runs and 11 hits in four innings. It was his shortest outing since he lasted only four innings last July 24 against the Mets in New York.
--INF Chris Gomez got a spot start for rookie SS Brian Bixler and went 3-for-5 with three runs. Bixler is hitting .169. Gomez is 16-for-50 (.320) with two doubles and nine RBIs in his 12 starts this season.
--INF Doug Mientkiewicz went 3-for-5 and scored three runs while starting at third base for Jose Bautista, who was rested. Mientkiewicz had gone only 6-for-41 (.121) in his previous 21 games after going 5-for-15 (.333) in his first eight contests.

Kudos to Yoselyn Herrera after last night's performance. It has to be hard to keep your head up after geting shelled by the Cardinals and embarrassed by the Rockies- but Herrera showed us why he's in the bigs last night.
After the deserved verbal thrashing we all rightfully gave this young man after his first two/three starts; I think it is only fitting that we congratulate the guy on a well-pitched game.

With the trade deadline looming Pittsburgh will once again be looking at a new team after July 31. We've seen it many times before but, new management has new hopes and provides new dreams for us, Pirate Fans.
Previous years the trades haven't been so great but, have we ever considered the lack of coacing at the minors? Are there problems with the coaching down there
Both hit homers so far in this game. They are essentially writing their ticket out of Pittsburgh, I just hope this ups the price and teams are willing to give more.
