--RHP Merkin Valdez was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow strain, retroactive to Tuesday. On Monday, Valdez gave up two hits and three runs in one-third of an inning, and he later he told the Giants that he had discomfort in the elbow. Valdez had Tommy John surgery in 2006, but manager Bruce Bochy said the current problem is in a different area of the elbow.
--LHP Alex Hinshaw was recalled from Class AAA Fresno when RHP Merkin Valdez went on the disabled list. Hinshaw, 25, had seven saves in eight opportunities with Fresno, with a 0.57 ERA and 21 strikeouts and four walks in 15 2/3 innings. He made his big-league debut in the eighth inning Thursday. He faced two batters, allowing a hit and recording a strikeout.
--SS Omar Vizquel had three hits or more in a game for the 176th time in his career. Vizquel, who missed more than a month after arthroscopic knee surgery, is hitting .444 since he came off the disabled list. He scored three runs Thursday.
--RHP Kevin Correia, who is on the disabled list with a strained muscle in his left side, will pitch an inning or two at extended spring training or in a simulated game while the Giants are at Arizona the final week of May. In the meantime, he will continue his rehab while the Giants head on the road next week.
--INF Kevin Frandsen was moved onto the 60-day disabled list in order to make room for LHP Alex Hinshaw on the 40-man roster. Frandsen is out for the season after surgery to repair a torn left Achilles tendon.
BY THE NUMBERS 91-85 -- Giants' interleague record through 2007, one of just seven NL teams above .500 in interleague history.
QUOTE TO NOTE "I was kidding with him that he must have had No. 25 on his back." -- Manager Bruce Bochy on Omar Vizquel, who drew three intentional walks for the first time in his career. Barry Bonds wore No. 25.

I know pitching is not a pressing need, but NY Yankee needs a SP badly after Wang got injured. I'm not sure if Yankee will bite, but I'd love to have this guy. Wang is currently on DL and probably will not be able to pitch until next yr. He's 28 and had won 19 games in the past 2 seasons. Our pitchers are so young, perhpas getting Wang will give us more exper
Sabean, nice job getting rid of Ray and his 7.5 million. Now we just need to dump Visquel and Roberts combined 11.5 million and we will really have something.
If we can rid ourselves of these salaries and not finish in the cellar it will be a good year.
