The season isn't even a quarter of the way done yet, but the Nationals appear to have found the team that will give them as much trouble as anyone in the National League -- the Florida Marlins, who are turning into the kind of young team the Nationals aspire to be.

Florida beat Washington for the sixth time in seven games on Friday night, giving the Nationals trouble with their free-swinging lineup. Tim Redding, who turned in one of his worst performances of the year against Florida last month, again got in trouble trying to work around the Marlins' talented young hitters.

He gave up his third hit of the year -- in five at-bats -- to Hanley Ramirez in the fourth inning, when Ramirez "basically called my bluff" in guessing Redding wouldn't throw an off-speed pitch on a 1-2 count. That double scored the Marlins' first run of the night, and Ramirez's walk set up Redding's second disastrous sixth inning of the year against Florida.

"Getting into the sixth inning and getting the leadoff guy on seems to be a repeating track with me right now," Redding said. "At the end of the day, when I go back and I'm going through the game in my head, it's one of the glaring things that's always coming up."

MARLINS 7, NATIONALS 3: Florida took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, added two more in the fourth and blew the game open with a four-run sixth Friday. All that was plenty for starter Ricky Nolasco, who allowed just one run on four hits in six innings while striking out six.

The Nationals had several chances to catch the Marlins, but left the bases loaded twice.

Jorge Cantu went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Florida. Cristian Guzman, Lastings Milledge and Nick Johnson all had two hits for the Nationals, but Washington's third through fifth hitters were stranded in scoring position three times.

I would imagine they will both be in the lineup saturday night.

Look Estrada and Loduca will not be on this roster for the first play off game so let them go.

I don't want to be the one to start on Wily Mo but............................

Can anyone tell me who this guy is that coaches third base for the Nationals? He has sent runners home each of the last two games against the Astros with both (Zimmerman & Pena) thrown out at the plate by a great margin in key situations . He has also had similar instances earl ...(more)

Lets keep this going all season. Talk about the game here and let us know what you think.

So the Nationals are now 3-0 after an awesome outing from Redding.

I was getting nervous in the bottom of the 8th when Redding gave up a walk, but it seemed destined for us to win, because "rally killer" Feliz hit into what would have bee ...(more)

The Nationals are taking a one run lead into the 9th.  I love the chance of staring the season at 3-0, with wins against the Phillies and the Braves!  Compare this to last years start (over which just about anythi ...(more)

I'd like to start a thread were fans can talk about support of the Nationals, or lack of, in the area.  Post your thoughts and maybe point out places that are a good place to catch a game with other Nats fans.

I stopped in a local bar today, hoping to catch the Nats, and maybe some of the Nascar race  (today wa

By Lawrence Barreca. Well, it's that time of the week again. New players seem to arise with each game that they play, and now the young pitching is beginning to mature. Here are my "Hot" Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 6:

Obviously he is not doing much . Not even getting ABs.   Nats should bring up someone younger if Belliard is just going to ride the pines.

They started 3-0, and now they lost 12 of 13. They need to turn it around.

Hey Nationals fans, let's get over the "you crimped our market" or the "you keep our team from getting fans" and start supporting both teams if we live in the area!

Sure, we can be interleague rivals, and it's fun.  Since both teams struggle with attendance, why don't we all go to as many hea ...(more)

First the good, the ball park is great.  I have been twice.  Once I sat in the infield box and last night out in the left field box.

While both seats and sightlines were great, I preferred sitting in left field.  We got a couple of batting practice HR's one by Milledge and one by Marlins SS

Is it just me or does it look like the stadium is drawing anemic crowds?

Other than the big opening night affair, this is probably the worst home attendance weekend for a brand new ballpark in recent history.

I thought this taxpayer paid for stadium would be this huge draw to justify the cost to the public.

I though the mediocre attendance at RFK would change with the ne ...(more)

By John Arias. This week, as promised we split the start/sit column in two. The first part, published on Tuesday, listed most of week 3 two-start pitchers. This second part, will feature all hitters. We'll have 15 Must-start, 15 players to sit, a list of all teams playing 7 games next week, the ones playing 6 games and a little recap on each MLB team and its suggested ...(more)
