Wizards report: Getting inside
Now that the season is over, it could be said that the real season is about to begin for the Wizards. With Gilbert Arenas opting out of his contract and Antawn Jamison's contact expiring this summer, no team will be more focused on the free agent frenzy than the Wizards. While Arenas has proved to be a superstar, he is a superstar when he is healthy, something he has not been now at the end of the season for two years running. Will the Wizards be willing to max him out -- which they have already said they intend to do -- even though there are serious questions about the health of his knee? And Arenas has yet to give the team a solid commitment that he indeed wants to return next season. And what about Jamison? While he averaged 21.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game -- numbers that he should be able to command $10 million annually with -- he will be 32 when next season begins. Washington will have to decide whether he is worth signing to another hefty deal. Also, considering that the Wizards bowed out in the first round of the playoffs for the third year in a row, it won't be long before the job security of coach Eddie Jordan will soon become an issue. CAVALIERS 105, WIZARDS 88: The Wizards probably aren't calling LeBron James overrated anymore after he closed them out Friday night in Washington with a triple-double. James, finished with 27 points, 13 rebounds and handed out 11 assists as the Cavaliers advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the third time in a row at the expense of the Wizards. James had his triple-double by the end of the third quarter and entered the fourth quarter with 18 points, 10 assists and 10 boards. The Wizards, coming off a big win in Cleveland two nights earlier, lost the game in the second quarter when they were outscored 21-7 in the final 7:23. Antawn Jamison led the Wizards with 23 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks.
