Overview

After missing nearly half of his junior season with a hip injury, Bishop needed a breakout senior season. With a career high seven receiving touchdowns and his trademark toughness as an inline blocker, Bishop successfully improved his stock. A rangy-built athlete with room for additional growth, Bishop is a reliable short- and medium-range target who catches the ball cleanly and is one of this draft's more physical and technically sound blockers. His lack of flashy athleticism makes him a Day Two prospect -- but one who could potentially contribute immediately.

Analysis

Positives: Rangy, athletic build with room for additional growth. … Good quickness in and out of his breaks to generate separation from defenders. … Intelligent player who spends time in the film room and can recognize the holes in zone coverage despite a relative lack of starting experience. … Secure hands for the reception. … Tough target in the middle who knows how to shield defenders from the ball. … Tough blocker. … Takes this element of his job seriously. … Uses his hands well and aggressively and works to sustain his blocks.

Negatives: Good, but not great overall athleticism. … Fights for extra yardage, but isn't going to run away from defenders or present a deep seam target. … Has struggled some with injuries in the past, including repeated hamstring problems and a stress fracture in his left leg that caused him to miss four games in 2006. … Small hands.

High School

A graduate of Rancho Cotate High School … two-time, two-way All-Empire League selection as a tight end and defensive end … earned second-team All-Bay Area honors as a tight end … was also a North Coast Section scholar-athlete with a 4.0 GPA … had 12 catches for 176 yards and a touchdown and added a school-record 17 sacks in 2002.

Personal

Born Dec. 11, 1984 in Rohnert Park, Calif. … Parents are Richard Bishop and Amber Woodson … Majoring in business management.
