Overview
On the field, Kraus has been a solid all-conference starter for the Wolverines for three years at center and left guard. Off the field, he has gone through some tribulations. Kraus' family had to evacuate from the suburbs of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, his father has taken on cancer and he was slightly injured after jumping out of a second-story window as he and his teammates' house burned down in 2004. The NFL may be a piece of cake in comparison.
Analysis
Positives: Good athleticism for an interior lineman, which is not surprising considering he was recruited as a tight end Fair at combo blocking and getting to the mike linebacker when required Durable and smart Handles the line calls.
Negatives: Lacks power, rarely knocking anyone with any girth backwards Cannot handle great quickness inside Once his man gets a step on him, he does not often recover Does not pack a great punch Fails to sustain blocks long enough to keep plays alive Tends to play a bit too upright Ends up on his back too often Missed spring '07 with shoulder surgery Probably not strong enough to play guard in the NFL and may not play with enough leverage to start at center.
