Overview

With all of the attention heaped upon LSU's Glenn Dorsey and Southern California's Sedrick Ellis, some might be surprised to note Laws is by far and away the most productive defensive tackle eligible for the draft. Utilizing a quick burst, impressive hand technique and a non-stop motor, Laws' team-leading 112 tackles ranks only one behind Steve Niehaus as the most in Irish history from a defensive lineman. A strong performance at the Senior Bowl proved Laws wasn't a product of a leaky Notre Dame defense, but a standout despite it.

Analysis

Positives: Short, squatty, powerful build … Good initial quickness off the snap to generate an instant advantage on his opponent … Quick, strong hands to disengage from defenders … Showed significant improvement in this area as a senior … Good burst when he clears the line to close on the ballcarrier … Most impressive attribute is his non-stop motor … Simply doesn't quit on a play … Laterally and down-the-field, there may not be a defensive lineman in the country who pursues as passionately or effectively … Strong performance throughout the week of practice and the Senior Bowl boosted stock considerably.

Negatives: Lacks preferred size inside … Marginal strength to anchor despite his natural leverage advantage … Best suited to a three technique position in the 4-3 alignment and may be limited to only that role.
