Overview
Unfortunately, Joiner's senior year was not what he hoped it would be. His numbers (64 tackles, four for loss, two interceptions and four passes broken up) were not terrible, but an off-field incident involving his girlfriend's car (felony burglary charges were later dropped) was the most significant event of the season. Still, he's a solid strong safety who should get a shot in training camp to show he belongs.
Analysis
Positives: Adequate size and speed for strong safety Vocal leader on the field Strong in-the-box presence, and goes through the ballcarrier when making a stop Will take out fullback in the hole Should be a good special teams player with more than adequate speed and toughness.
Negatives: Stiff in the hips, will struggle to change directions with slot receivers or running backs in space Not great at keeping blockers off his feet Takes poor angles on runs and in deep coverage, leading to big plays Comes hard on blitz, but lacks strength to beat blocks on the way Also lacks strength to get off tight end blocks on the edge Will whiff on tackles in the open field if the play is not directly in front of him Likes to talk trash.
