Appearing on CBS' The Late Show with David Letterman on April 24, Brett Favre did confirm his status as retired. When asked by Letterman if he had filed his retirement papers, Favre said he hadn't and wasn't in a rush to do so since they had little significance. Furthermore, Letterman then asked Favre how he would feel once training camp started, to which Favre said, "I think when training camp gets close, I will ... something's bound to happen." Letterman asked for clarification on what that meant, and Favre got a little red-faced. "I don't know (what that means)," Favre said. "Did I just say that?!" Letterman then went on to propose a scenario where Favre wouldn't have to participate as much in camp as the rest of the Packers, to which Favre smiled and said, "Can you get that working?" Fantasy Analysis
In related news, the Packers placed Favre on their Reserve/Retired list on Friday. Between this TV appearance and previous statements about being "enticed" into coming back to play football, we're starting to think that Favre might pull a 180. When previous star players have retired, they've done it flatly and adamantly (John Elway and Barry Sanders come to mind). Favre was overly emotional at his retirement press conference and seemingly wants to still play on Sundays but not put in the physical work throughout the week and over the summer. His 2007 proved he can still play at a high level as he completed 356-of-535 passes for 4,155 yards, 28 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. These were Favre's best numbers in three years, and it's thanks to a well-planned offense that called for short, quick high-percentage passes. For now, Fantasy owners can turn to Aaron Rodgers as the quarterback in charge of the Packers' offense ... unless Favre changes his mind ... (Updated 04/25/2008).
QB Brett Favre is coming back to Green Bay this summer, though no word on whether he'll stick around and come out of retirement to play again. A week before his former teammates report for the start of training camp, Favre will be at Lambeau Field on July 19 to present Frank Winters for induction into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame. Winters was Favre's trusted center and one of the quarterback's off-the-field buddies. 05/15/2008
