Warner talking contract extension?: The Arizona Republic reports that the Cardinals and QB Kurt Warner are in negotiations on a contract extension. Warner is scheduled to be a free agent after the 2008 season. "We've talked about some things," said agent Mark Bartelstein. "It's something we might address over the next month or so." The Cardinals are looking for cap relief since they're due to pay WR Larry Fitzgeraldeight figures in 2008. (Updated 03/06/2008).

Fantasy Analysis
Warner was expected to be just a backup for Matt Leinart in 2007, but he wound up taking on a much larger role. In Week 3, he came off the bench and played in a "hurry-up offense" role, a spot he kept in every game until Week 6 when he took over as the Cardinals' starting QB after Leinart was out for the season. Playing like he was in 1999, Warner tossed at least two touchdowns in nine of 11 starts and finished with at least 300 yards passing in four of his last six games. He finished the season as a top-10 Fantasy QB with 3,409 passing yards on 282-of-452 passing (62.4 pct.) with 27 touchdowns, 17 interceptions and a rushing score with six fumbles. Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt has already stated that if healthy, Leinart will enter training camp as his starting quarterback. Warner should still have a role as his backup and possibly a two-minute drill passer. But unless Warner lands regular playing time, Fantasy owners shouldn't draft him in 2008 unless they do so as an insurance policy for Matt Leinart. (Updated 03/06/2008).
