The St. Petersburg Times reports that Bucs GM Bruce Allen has no plans to release QB Chris Simms even though Simms isn't planning to show up at offseason voluntary workouts this summer. "I think the good news on Chris is that he's 100 percent healthy," Allen said. "It's been some time since he's felt that way, and I think that bodes well for him. We have a long way to go until training camp and we obviously have a long season in front of us. That position does take a pounding." (Updated 04/02/2008).
Injury Report
Spleen - Questionable for the start of 2008 training camp (Updated - 4/2/08)
Fantasy Analysis
Simms is one of six QBs on the Bucs' roster (including retired passer Jake Plummer), and he feels like he's not part of the future for the club. He hasn't played in a regular season game since having his spleen removed in September 2006, but he's progressed enough to believe he will be ready to compete for a job this summer. Ultimately, Simms is not a reliable Fantasy option at this point. If he were to land in a position where he'd compete for a starting job, he'd be worth a look but not a draft pick. (Updated 04/02/2008).
QB Chris Simms was shopped during the draft but the universal response is sure to be a letdown to Simms and the Buccaneers -- not interested. Simms and Bruce Gradkowski were placed on the trade block, but no team made an offer, expecting that one or both veterans will be cut given Tampa Bay's wealth of quarterbacks. The Bucs believe Simms has value in part because they paid him more than $7 million over the past two seasons. At best, they can wait until July and hope he reports to training camp and proves he's healthy in the preseason. Maybe by then, injuries will leave a team short at quarterback. 05/08/2008
